Title: FLAT
Post by ccbyrd on Jul 10th, 2008 at 11:13am
I posted a few weeks ago asking where to begin and thanks to the great suggestions, I have been faithfully deep conditioning with Biolage Conditioning Balm make my hair heavenly soft!), rinsing with ACV and oiling with Jojoba oil. I have also not been using shampoo everyday but using Kirklands Conditioner, of all things, for a daily wash. It works really nicely.

The results have been very soft, silky, smooth, shiny, FLAT hair. I love the way my hair feels, but when I look in the mirror, it is kind of a droopy look.

Do I just need to get used to this look? Is this the trade off for healthy hair, for those of us who have fine, straight hair?

Any advice?

Thanks,
cc

I have similar hair - and yes, to a certain degree it is something you get used to.  However, there are some tricks to give your hair more lift.

1.  Change your part.  If you comb your hair against its "natural grain" it will stand off the head more.
2.  While drying your hair, fluff up the roots with your fingers.  (I have only partial sucess with this).
3.  Try rolling the top sections of your hair around heavy socks.  If your hair is damp when you do this and you let it dry, you will have lift and curls/waves!

Hope this helps.

Fine, straight hair usually is flat, honey. That's its nature. Moreso if it's also thin.

I know that there are root lifters and mousse that can be used on the roots while hair is damp, but I haven't tried these and am hesitant to do so because 1.) I don't use styling products and 2.) I'm not sure how effective they would be without the use of a blowfryer.
There's also the well-known habit of drying your hair upside down with a hair dryer on low, cool settings. I have tried that trick on several occasions and it didn't work.

What I do these days is just make sure that the roots of my hair don't dry plastered to my head and call it good enough.  ::)

Of course, I have no advice to offer on this topic.  I just found it slightly amusing that flat hairs have issues with volume like I have, but at the other extreme.

In addition to relaxing 4 times a year (which is totally not healthy ::)), I make sure that my hair is as plastered to my head as I can get it as it dries, or else it would be huge! :P

The grass is always greener on the other side, isn't it?!  ;D

For me, when I use conditioner, my hair is flat, flat, flat. I stopped using conditioner and voila, bouncy body-ful hair!
