I was looking for hat pins to go on my turban for a tribal bellydance number we were doing.  I found Waltzing Willows site (also owned by Susan) and linked from there.

I didn't wind up buying any pins or jewelry, and now I have what, 133 longlocks hairsticks?

Oh! You're a belly dancer?  Me too!   Grin

I've been dancing off and on for eighteen years but belly dancing for only three and a quarter.  I really, really love it.  I think I'm getting good at it, too, as my teacher has begun offering me paying gigs now and then.  Smiley   How long have you been dancing?

Long hair seems to be popular with belly dancers, have you noticed?  Was it a factor in your decision to grow out your hair.?

The studio where I take lessons also teaches Hawaiian and Tahitian dancing, which I've picked up as well.  Have you tried either of those?

I'm no belly-dancer, but I do enjoy a little shimmy to shake out my shoulders and back after a hard session at the computer.

Found my way here looking for ideas for longer gray hair - EVERYBODY I know colors their gray hair, it's not even considered coloring where I live (Japan), just "good grooming", and EVERY older woman I know has short hair too. Noooo!

I'm still having intermitent (sp?) computer problems-sorry its taken me so long to respond!

I've been bellydancing for a couple of years, and for a time with a troupe.  I'm a musican first, dancer second which posed some problems for me.  Actually, I guess I'd have to say its a self-esteem issue!  Yes, long hair is popular with bellydancers and I hope to be a longhaired one someday.  I do think it influenced my committing to growing it to waist length.  My teacher has waistlength hair.  I have not tried any Hawaiian or Tahitian dancing.  I got my bellydance instruction at a gym, and have done some salsa classes at the gym, too.  I've taken a few ballet classes, but they got canceled do to lack of interest.  I seem to have a natural talent for the dance, but no confidence.  Tongue
I really love the costume aspect, and the zills.

Keep dancing, Grrbanzo!!!

As an older gray haired woman, I can certainly relate.  I will never color mine again.  Guess I just have poor grooming, lol.  Oh well, you knew that when I said I once went two weeks between washes.

Seriously, my hair is now healthier and happier than ever.  Why would I ever go back?

Hi all. I have had less than shoulder length hair for almost a two years. Before that it was almost waist-length. I cut it for Locks-for-Love and I don't regret that decision... But I want my long hair back  Cry. I loved having it long and I haven't been able to adapt to shortness very well. So I may not have long hair, but I want it.

Hi Everyone! I came to this site first looking for hairsticks but I found out (wow) how much information there is here..it is great. My hair is 22 in long now, looking forward to 30 inches which is elbow length on me, if I have measured correctly. I am a tribal bellydancer also and I am going to use some very fancy hairsticks for my next hafla, I only do the open dancing bit right now, practicing a new routine right now. Anyway I am thrilled that there are so many people who love long hair like I do and want to keep it growing!

I found this site as a link from another longhair site. For some reason that site has been unavailable for about a week. Love this one though. I am 62 (old like OldKathy, I guess and also live in Central Texas). I have had sort of long hair ( below shoulders in the 70s) about twice, but mostly always very short. Type is 1b F i. Used to color with semi-permanent color. However, when I decided to let it grow in July, I quit the color so it would be really healthy. I don't have any friends who like to talk about hair so now I do! I'm sure I'll enjoy being a member & will try to "get with it" computerwise to do pics. Oh..hair is now about chinlength with bangs. Hairline problem which is another post.

Used to frequent the now defunct "TLHS" someone there mentioned LongLocks Boutique and I have been hooked ever since
. Smiley

I just turned 53 last week and have been growing my hair since January 03 (because my younger sister was going through chemo for breast cancer and was losing hers). It's about waist length and I am letting it go grey.

I was searching for hair styles for extremely fine long hair when I found this site. You see I needed a trim and I thought I would try to get my hair to have some style. Not easy with extremely fine hair.  Undecided

Since my reason was not listed I just used the search option. I figured it was close enough. Wink

My hair is long enough to sit on, red-going-auburn, naturally straight, never coloured  and as much as I love it, I got bored with my hair dos and was looking for easy ones to try, that's why I came here.

You know what's funny, is I came here completely by chance; I hadn't even decided to grow my hair long.  I'd been ignoring my hair (and my general appearence) for some time, at least a year; longer, in fact, because for several years now the only haircut I've gotten has been a chin-length bob; it's my "I don't care" haircut.

It was after I came to this site and read the Ultimate Guide to Growing Long Hair that I realized; long hair is part of who I am.  Part of the reason I've been so depressed and disatisfied with my appearance is the fact that my hair was too short, and I didn't think I could grow it long again.  I do think I look good in a chin-length bob, but I love long hair and feel so much more honest when my hair is long.

My hair is thin and fairly fine, but it doesn't have to be short to be healthy.  If I take care of it, it will grow and look nice.  I didn't believe it.  Reading the guide and all the posts here about everybody's maintenance made me believe it.

I had decided to start growing my hair and did a websearch for helpful sites.  Longlocks is the best one I found!

Like some of you have mentioned, I was also a belly dancer for about 10 years, during my 30's.  I certainly never left my day job LOL! but I worked in restaurants on the weekends and made some nice splurge money.  I'm 51 now and stopped dancing about 10 years ago due to a family situation, but you can see I still use my dancing name, Saahira.  I treasure those memories, and if I ever lose the weight I've put on since then I may go back to it again.

Also like some of you have mentioned, I will never color my hair.  I'm blonde and starting to go gray right on top, but that's OK with me.  My Dad went from blonde to silver to pure white.  I can happily live with that!
