Tangles

I have had this ugly head cold all week so I have been laying down quite a bit more.  Needless to say, I have more tangles.  I havent been doing a "bed braid" either cuz I was only going to lay down for a little bit.   Its like I havent been able to get comb thru my hair.  The section of hair that is the most impossible to comb right now is in the nape area.  Not sure why  Huh.  It has been too cold for me to do an all nite oiling so that might be some of the cause.  Do any of you have this problem?  Could it be a change of seasons or just my cold?  Spritzing with oil/water mix makes my head colder so I wont do that.  What else can I do.  I absolutely will be doing an all niter tonite cuz I just cant these tangles any more.  Probably have pneumonia by thursday (o well).

Debr!  Feel better!!!

I have started to get tangles at the nape of my neck, which I think is related to my length and the fabrics I wear.  I begin by finger combing and then when I hit a snarl, I gently hold it in one hand and use the other to pick one hair out at a time.  It reminds me of unknotting a fine chain necklace.  I make myself be patient and just keep working until its gone and then continue finger combing until all tangles are gone.  Then I use a wide tooth comb before applying oil to my ends.  Also, something I've been doing that seems to reduce the amount and severity of the tangles is to divide my hair in half, bringing each half infront of my body and the putting the oil on each half individually.  I seem to get a better coating on the underside of my hair (mine's thick, but I think yours is thicker) which can be difficult due to the amount of hair.  Lucky us?  Mixed blessing, more like.

Sesame oil is a warming oil.

I sure hope you don't wind up with pneumonia!!!

Thanks Sakina!  I did not get pneumonia.  What a relief, my cold is finally gone.  I had it for two weeks.  I havent been able to do the all nite oil yet, I am considering that for this saturday nite.  I usually use grapeseed oil, I like it the best.  I divide my hair in half for combing. It is the only way I can.  Then for oiling, I divide in half, then start splitting smaller sections off, winding up with perhaps 10 differant oiled sections all over my head.  Finally, I oil my scalp in back.  I takes me about 45 minutes to do but has been worth it.

Now, to remove the tangles, I have also been bending at the waist and combing the underside (nape).  It's as tho my comb cant get thru all of my hair anymore.  So, I started doing this way and it seems to be working better.  Takes a little more time to do, but at least my hair is combed and the tangles are removed.

Having thick and curly hair requires patience, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Grin
