West German glass artists have been making spectacular crystal, acrylic and glass beads since the end of the 13th century and almost all glass beads found in jewelry made from the early 18th century until the first half of the 20th century were made in West Germany. Beads were often smuggled out of West Germany in the mid 20th century, when the country was divided between east and west, with the help of border guards who would mark West German shipments "East Germany" to ensure their safe passage. Today vintage West German beads are eagerly sought after and coveted among collectors.
Because you can never have too much sparkle. Each hat pin is designed with three breathtaking faceted plum purple vintage West German acrylic beads with an incredibly sparkly aurora borealis crystal rhinestone nestled into each side. Gold plated heishi beads and gold plated filigree bead caps sit between each bead. This limited edition Waltzing Willow hat pin measures 5" from end to end. A clutch is included so the jewelry piece may be worn as a stick pin if desired, and because the beads are acrylic this design is perfect for those who prefer lighter weight jewelry. Rhinestones are a girl's best friend...
