Title: Styling products?
Post by leia on Mar 15th, 2003 at 10:20am
I don't usually ever use any styling products, since I decided to stop chopping off my hair, stop blow drying it and grow it long and natural. Once I was having a really bad hair day and so I made the hairspray out of oranges and lemons from the Cookbook on this site, and that really helped. I know that doesn't harm my hair. But I was wondering if it's alright to use some store-bought products? Not too much of course, but I thought if I put in some mousse it might hold my curl for more than five minutes after washing  :-/. Haha I'm serious, when I finger comb it to smooth it down all my curls go away!! But anyway, is it harmful to use some products once in a while?

I don't think occasional use would cause any harm. Everything in moderation.  I've found aloe vera gel can work well to help tame frizzies.  I also have used it as a setting gel to help hold the curl better.  Aloe vera also acts as a sun screen.

I think my hairspray is working well for now. On the day before my washing, I get a little frizzy, especially since it's raining a lot over here these days. I take a tiny bit of hairspray and instead of spraying the whole thing on my head I take a little in my hand and smooth the frizz with that. It doesn't make my hair sticky and it helps hold the style all day! Maybe I could use that to hold the curl. Hmm
