Title: Combs and Brushes
Post by E. on Sep 9th, 2003 at 11:58am
Hi there,

I found this website with fantastic combs and brushes handmade from boar bristle, wood and buffalo horn. They look very soft and healthy ;) Unfortunately it is in Germany again  :-[ www.kostkamm.de

I finally broke down and bought a Madora detangling comb from "The Enchantress" salon online.  It killed me to pay $18.00 for a comb!   :o  But I loved it when I got it.  It's a very heavy, ivory colored comb with the words "Madora" "Handmade in Switzerland" on it in shiny gold letters.  It's very polished and slick, and it goes through my hair more easily than any other comb I've bought.  It's about 7" long, with wide spaces between the teeth.

I also lucked out at "Bath & Body Works," when they were having a clearance sale on Kent brushes.  I got a brush that was originally $70.00 on sale for about $15.00.  The brush is really great, and it's much better than other boar bristle brushes I've used.  I'm not one for buying stuff just because it's expensive, but I guess quality does matter.

The products on that German site look great, too bad they don't ship internationally!

Do you guys have any other tips for web sites selling good hair products? I've searched in vain for a boar bristle brush in Sweden...

I think I have seen that www.drugstore.com does international shipping.  I have no idea what the costs would be, but you could check them out.

I think Amazon ships overseas, don't they? They have a number of boar bristle brushes. Here's the link to the search I did but I don't know if it will work.

I buy most of my haircare products online too,at www.hqhair.com
They are based in the UK and do ship internationally. They also have all the Mason Pearson brushes, including boar bristle ones.(I bought my MasonPearson brush there). They have fast shipping and quite a large selection of haircare/accessories and other beauty products.I must know, since I always spend too much there........... ;D ;D
A US based online store I can recommend and which ships internationally is www.adiscountbeauty.com
they also have brushes.(And lots of other nice things... ;) )

Thanks for the great suggestions! I'm going to the US on vacation soon anyway so I think I'll try to hold out until then (I don't brush my curly hair very much). However, I can never resist a good web site! The UK is probably better for me due to shipping charges. Oh, the joys of spending money!  ;D

Title: Wooden Combs
Post by AnaisSatin on Apr 30th, 2004 at 8:48pm
Hello Everyone

After only window-shopping these longlocks boards for the past few months, I finally decided I to register and finally POST SOMETHING!!!  (This feels really good)

Anyhoo, have any of you tried hardwood combs? I have two, and I will swear by them to the very end. They wipe out static, don't stretch hair or strip the cuticle, and distribute scalp oils evenly to the ends. Not only do they not damage hair, they're true works of art too.

Ric Carpenter in Oregon makes each comb with his modified equipment. His business Sierra Legacy works with a personal touch. They're kind of pricey ($20-30 per) but they last an average of 25-30 years. Email Ric with your hair type, thickness, ethnicity, etc.. and he'll make you a recommendation. Ric@combmaker.com .

here's Ric's website for browsing http://www.combmaker.com

Now I use my BBB to clean my combs and to remove lint from sweaters (works great)

Anais Satin

dark hair
Neutrogena shampoo and conditioner
(the kind swiped from Doubletree hotels)
light oiling every other day

Welcome & I'm glad you finally decided to de-lurk and join us.

I know what you mean about Ric's combs.  I too have 2 of his combs.  I use them exclusively.  I gave up on brushes about a year ago and now only comb my hair.

Hm,sounds interesting.
Usually I'm only brushing my hair once it's dry-but maybe I'll give these combs a try, too!
