Title: Hair length Post by E. on Oct 14th, 2003 at 4:09pm
Hi there,
do you know this special problem too? For some styles I want to try my hair is a very little bit too short to look really great- one or two inches more will change the appearance. But there are a lot of styles my hair is too long for! Some styles don´t look pretty anymore (for example low ponytail - best length was shoulder or just below), some styles become difficult when you have to wrap more than 30 inches of hair :-[ ??? What can I do ??? :P ;D E. |

Such a problem you have! ;D I too found that as my hair has grown, certain styles don't work as well, but then I have the fun of finding new ones to replace them. Figure 8's and knots have replaced simple buns. French braids that are folded back up, have replaced single low braids. Pony tails have been replaced with knotted tails.
Good luck and have fun with new hair styles. |

Yes, I have the same problem, especially with French twists which make me look like I have some kind of head deformity. I'm surprised you say you don't like low ponytails anymore though... it's my favorite "non hairsticks" style! The Japanese have been wearing their low ponytails with incredibly long hair for centuries. Maybe you aren't making it low enough to look right?

One of my friends call it "alien head" ;) Hm...I use to wear high ponytails now or low braids. Maybe it´s just a personal preference. |

My son's girlfriend wear's her almost waist-length hair in a low ponytail fequently. It always looks so nice with her very straight, dark brown hair. It looks sloppy with my hair :P

I am soooo looking forward to having a problem with my hair being too long! Right now, my hair is barely shoulder-length, with all sorts of funky half grown-out layers. (I had a pixie last July, so I've been working hard to grow it out, let me tell you! :)) When I wear a ponytail, I look like I've attached a pice of scarecrow to the back of my head, and when I wear it loose, I look like some aging grunge rocker! :-[ Oh, if I only had *too long* hair, what sweet misery! ;) |

I have always thought that long, straight ponytails are very sophisticated. You might try wrapping your ponytail with some ribbon the same color as your hair, or even some clear fishing line (fishing line sounds terrible, doesn't it? i can't think of anything thicker than that right now, however. ???). That would keep your ponytail from looking "sloppy". |

I don't wear ponytails very often as my hair tangles very quickly. I usually wear my hair in braids or buns.

Eek! I wouldn't wrap my hair with fishing line, I'd be afraid it would cut right through it! ==========:o |

You are probably right...what I was trying to think of is some thicker plastic string that I've seen on "Betty Spaghetti Dolls," if you know what those are ??? Anyway, I guess that's not such a "hair safe" suggestion, eh? Rope braids are always lovely, and they look very similar to a ponytail. I put my daughter's hair in a rope braid (she's 11) and it lasts her all day without getting all "sloppy" looking, like her ponytails sometimes do. |

I love rope braids, and gathered or french rope braids are fantastic for holding hair in place without getting that loose, sloppy look. I can sleep with my hair in rope braids and not "have" to re-do them in the morning (assuming I'm going for a casual look),

Have often wondered about dealing with very long hair.
Recently observed a girl in a lightly populated area with beautiful dark red hair to her ankles, extremly shiney & awesome. She had it loose and it seemed to stay back fairly well but I wondered how well she deals with it in typical daily routine. We have many women in my area who have extremly long hair & appear to deal with it well. They are always smiling. One came around the isle in a store and her long hair hit me in the face, she said " I'm so sorry" I just smiled and thanked her and she smiled back:) ;) |
