Title: Hair help!!!
Post by ChristaHoney on Apr 14th, 2004 at 2:26am
This Is my first post, i am so glad that i have found your site. Only about 3 months ago did i decide that I am going to grow my hair out to about half way down my back. that's not really long but it's the look that im going for.So this is my story right now my hair is now just shoulder length. About 2 years ago I decided that lighter hair is the best or I thought would make me look better. I looked good as a blonde but It was hell on my hair, every 2 months or so i would have to go back to the salon and get my roots done and a little cut...after about 2 years of do this has been hell on my hair. I used to shapoo and condition everyday...which included blowdrying and a straighting Iron...lets just say that my hair has still wont recover til a while.
Then when i found your site i relized that the best hair is healthy hair. So I decided to go back to my natural hair colour and get about 2 or 3 inches cut off my hair. Now I shampoo and condition my hair every other day rather then every day. I have some questions about some products i use herbal essences purifying or clarifying shampoo....pantene pro V daily moisture conditioner and after them I use John Frieda  Frizz-Ease...are there any ingredients in these products that i should watch out for? also when i blow hair my hair...i have it on the cool seting all the time...so it wont damage my hair so much...and i used the straighening iron less often now...maybe once a week...i know i should not :(...but it makes my hair look so nice and shiny even though it's not good for my hair...is there any more advice that somebody can give...I still have alot of split ends and damage hair..and Im not cutting off all my damage hair either ;) I only have about 1.5 inches of new hair growth that is really healthy...Oh well i hope somebody will reply
  Have a cool Day 8)

Recovering from the damage that occurs when hair is lightened is never easy (been there, done that, had the split ends to prove it).

Discontinuing coloring is a great start.  Unfortunately, most of your hair has already been damaged.  Trying to correct the damage is never easy.  Reducing the blow drying and straightening will help.  Being gentle with your hair will be very important.  Your hair is most likely very dry.  If you work at conditioning and moisturing the damaged hair, you can minimize the split ends and breakage.

Trim off the split ends (not necessarily the length of your hair, just the splits as you find them).

Consider oiling your hair at night.  This will help to restore the moisture.  Jojoba oil is a light oil that can be used for this.  Don't use too much - just a couple of drops rubbed between the palms of your hands, then run your hands down your hair.

Try to continue to reduce the number of times you wash your hair.  Twice a week is usually enough.  Condition the ends of your hair.

Look at the ingredients in your shampoo and conditioner and try to use the mildest possible ingredients.  Some hair does not respond well to silicone type ingredients - some loves it.  If you feel the ends of your hair are stiff or crunchy, try a vinegar rinse to remove any buildup.  Consider changing your shampoo or conditioner to see if you get better results.
