Title: Rainwater
Post by Anais Satin on Aug 7th, 2004 at 4:35am
Hey Everybody,

Today I did a final rinse with rainwater! (just tried it today ;D and I have maybe... 50% more softness) I ended up collecting roof more runoff than actual rainfall (after many hours of its becoming a clean roof.. I swear it's clean if you wait out 8 hours of rain) Collecting takes several hours, but the end result was waaay worth it. The patio must have looked silly with tupperware out back...

Isn't rainwater great? I never wash with it intentionally. If I end up being outside in the rain, I take down my hair because the rain feels so great running through my hair and on my scalp. When my hair dries, it comes out thicker and softer.  ;)

We collect rainwater in a cistern and then have a pump
to pump it out to water our flowers and vegetable
garden so we don't use the tap water for outside
watering but I don't know avbout using it on my hair
because I don't know if its dirty after sitting in the
cistern for a while.    Maybe better to collect it in a
bowl?

I've been wanting to try rinsing with rainwater for a while, but we haven't been getting enough rain, and living so close to a big city I'm not sure I trust its cleanliness.

I was planning on carting home some fresh mountain springwater from Colorado to try rinsing with, but I got too thirsty on the bus ride home and ended up drinking most of it.  ::)

On Bermuda, all the houses' roofs are painted white with lyme.  Because they get so little rain, they have to collect rainwater to keep up with the demand.   The lyme purifies the rainwater, which is channeled into tanks beneath the houses.  They keep goldfish in the water to keep it from getting stagnant.  This is the water they drink and shower with!  Our cruise ship had to bring them tons and tons of water because they were running low... apparently it's a pretty common practice.  Resourceful, huh?

Hey Cairn! Welcome home!
I'm always gonna love rainwater rinses... I'll be making it a good hobbit, er,... good habit from now on.

Hi Anais!  :)

I'm still trying to figure out a good way to collect rainwater; it never seems to rain long or hard enough. I left a Tupperware container out when it rained overnight a few weeks ago, but when I came down in the morning it had all evaporated.  :-/

I understand... the only way I did it was waiting out a thunderstorm.

I would love to try the rain water as well, now if only we get some rain.  It's a running joke around here that in the summertime we get so dry that the trees start whistling for the dogs.  Hmm...

Hi bugeyedmonster2!

Every once in a while we get a nasty down pour and I rinse in the rain.  Man it's cold!!!

Oh, isn't it.  We actually got a really heavy downpour last night (I did manage to collect some rainwater) and even though it's July with temps in the high 90s, the water was really cold.  I was out a bit trying to get my hair wet.   Don't stand under trees, as their leaves were a bit dusty, I think.  LOL!

But I finally got the chance to get some rainwater.

Many years ago, my best friend did a rainwater rinse & raved to me about how soft it made her hair feel. Later on, I had to try it!

It's funny to learn how many others do the same thing. Perhaps I will make it a regular habit...er, when we actually get rain, that is.
