Title: Rua's News!
Post by Rua on Oct 19th, 2004 at 1:50pm
Here is my big news....

I just discovered that I'm gonna be a mum!!

YAY! :D :D :D :D :o :o :o :D

I'm delighted and pleasantly surprised. And of course, I'm looking forward to the possible benefits that pregnancy will have on my HAIR! Maybe for once in my life, I will have lovely thick hair as opposed to my fine comb-over 'do that I have now. LOL

Hubby and I are going on holiday tomorrow morning, so I'll chat with ye more when we get back!

Congratulations Rua!! ;D Oh what wonderful news.
My hair did get thicker when I was pregnant with
my 2 sons.  It was the only time I had decent Hair!!
It was still fine, there was just more of it.  I think
it grew faster, too, might have been the vitamins.
When are you due?

Try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy!  I know that's
easier said than done, but this is a great time of your

What an exciting time for you! ;D

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful news!

My "baby" is now in his second year of high school - and 6 feet tall - but I can still remember holding that tiny bundle in my arms. You can look forward to many, many happy changes ahead!

Hugs,

Ah, thats so sweet, Maggie. Thank you!

I've been keeping up on the vitamins and such. (Been taking folic acid for the last year now, so I'm hoping that it's does everything that the doctors claim it does.)

Kate, welcome back! How was your holiday??
To answer your question, I feel kinda as sick as a parrot quite often during the day, but nothing I can't cope with. In fact, the thing I'm having difficulty coping with is how HUNGRY I am all the time. I can't figure out how something that is roughly the size of 2 kidney beans can make me eat so MUCH! LOL  :o :P ;D

Rua;
Hormones do strange things to your body!  I was pregnant 5 times - each one was VERY different.  Morning sickness with some and not others, food cravings with one and not the others, couldn't stand the smell of cooking meat with one pregnancy!  Soda/saltine crackers work well at settling a queasy stomach - I would keep some by the bed and eat one before getting up.

Try to enjoy this very special time.  I hope it all goes very well for you.

Having babies is such a blessing. I am excited for you Rua. My sister is pregnant, too. We have fun thinking about names. She think it will be a boy. Have you gone over names? Are you going to ask to find out what gender it is before it is born?
I can't wait to have a baby, one day. I feel like all my friends have kids or are pregnant except me. It is so exciting.
Bikerbraid, you have five kids? How old? You seem too young.
Joanne

Bikerbraid, I just read on a post that your pushing 50, is that true? Do you think long hair makes woman look younger? I think so. Maybe because you have to be healthy to have long hair and health is associated with youth.
Joanne

Post by Rua on Nov 2nd, 2004 at 5:30pm
Hiya Joanne! Yes, we've given thought to some names, but haven't come to a decision yet. Hubby really wants to find out what the sex of the wee babe is...he can't wait for the birth. Me - I could wait, but I'll go along with hubby.  :D

We are probably going to give it a semi-traditional Irish name...but one that isn't too complicated so that when we travel abroad, people won't get too confused on pronounciation.

Wow BB! 5 pregnancies! That's amazing! Fair play to ye woman!  :o :D

Poor Rua, I hope the nausea passes soon and that you can enjoy your pregnancy!

And thanks, the vacation was fantastic! It's always lovely seeing family again, and so hard leaving them. And it's so DARK here now, yech I hate this time of year in Sweden.

Take care,
Kate

Title: Re: Rua's News!
Post by Rua on Nov 3rd, 2004 at 12:03pm
Kate, I know what you mean. A lot of my family live in America and the short times I get to see them seem to fly by so fast. Now that I'm preggers, all I can think about is how much they will be missing of their first grandbaby, and that kills me!  :'(

It's gotten so dark here too. As soon as daylight savings time hits, you can forget enjoying any sunshine for the next 4 months or so. I'd say it's even worse in Sweden actually because you are much higher up on the globe than we are! When does the sun set there?

Once the winter solstice comes in December our days are cut down from about 9am-3:30pm. Bleh is right!!!  :P

Joanne and Rua - I guess I should have been more clear - I've had 5 pregnancies, but only 1 son. Four pregnancies did not survive due to a heriditary disorder in my husband's family that no one fully understood at the time.  We consider ourselves very fortunate to have our healthy son.

And as long as we are revealing all our deep, dark secrets - I'm 51 and believe my long hair helps to keep me looking and feeling much younger.   ;D

Title: Re: Rua's News!
Post by Rua on Nov 4th, 2004 at 8:21am
I'm so sorry to hear that BB. I can't even imagine how difficult that must have been. Still, I'd say that you and your husband feel very blessed to have your son - healthy and happy.

And I agree that long hair on most women (especially when they know how to care for it), makes them look beautiful and young! Just looking at the back of your head on your avatar, I would have NEVER guessed in a million years you are 51! I was reckoning maybe 36! Long hair makes a woman carry herself with much pride and beauty. And rightfully so!

BB- I'm so sorry for your losses. I've m/c 3 times
myself- Probably my age- but I feel fortunate to have
my two sons- Your son is surely a blessing to you.
Yes I think long hair makes a woman look younger- contrary to the current wisdom of today that a woman
over 40 must cut her hair.
Rua- You must be sooo excited!! Don't worry about
eating- You have an excuse now!!

Title: Re: Rua's News!

Wow - I'm sorry Babyfine about your losses too. I so very much appreciate the miracle of this little life inside me. I hope everything goes ok to the end.

And as regards eating...LOL! I know! WHOO-HOO!!!
I might be going to visit my Mum in January in the States. I am SO going to go mad on American food. Olive Garden....here I come!!!  ;D

As any of us who have had a miscarriage know - once you've lost a pregnancy, you find out that *everyone else* has had a miscarriage as well.  We learn to accept what we cannot change and be appreciative of what we have.

Rua, be sure to enjoy your pregnancy and marvel at what is happening to you.  You will have your ups and downs, but know that you are not alone, no matter what happens.

Rua,
I don't know how I missed your marvelous news before now!

I'll bet you'll be a great "mum"; I just think "mum" is so cute!

Like everyone has already said, take care of yourself, pamper yourself, enjoy your hair, enjoy being able to eat more, get plenty of sleep and make everyone around you wait on you hand and foot because your "preggars" and you deserve it!!!

Congratulations, sweetie! ;D ;D ;D

Aw, thank you Strawberryfine!

I'm going in for my first scan next Thursday! I hope that everything comes out ok. I'm a bit nervous about it but so excited too.
It'll be the big moment when I found out if this is a REAL LIFE baby inside me all this time or if I have in fact just had a bad case of gas the last 3 months. LOL!!  ;) ;)

Hello dear Rua (mum ;)),
I just read your last post, and I'm sitting here thinking how amazing it is that I can feel so joyous and excited for someone that I have never even met.  I feel like I am anxiously awaiting a new niece or nephew!  Hey...maybe we can all be his or her "Fairy Longlocks" Godmothers ***big smile*** Now wait, I think I am combining Goldi Locks and Fairy Godmother...well, that's interesting too, and appropriate, Goldi Locks had great hair, right?  Anyway, best of wishes on your first scan and continue to keep the rest of us noosies posted! ;D

I'm grand, thank you for asking! Just started my 12 week...and I am SOOO looking forward to flying into the second trimester. I really hope that the morning sickness will disappear by then the way the books tell you it does with most women.

First scan is this Thursday! I can't wait!

The scan went brilliantly, Maggie, thank you! It was such an amazing experience to see the wee one on the screen for the first time. I just cried! (Happy tears of course!)  ;)

Can't wait for the next scan in March. I think that's the one where they can tell if it's a boy or a girl.

Awww, that's wonderful, Rua!  I'm so glad to hear that everything went so well, I can only imagine your excitement!  Are you going to let the doctor tell you the sex of your baby next time?

Title: Re: Rua's News!
Post by Rua on Nov 30th, 2004 at 3:22pm
I think we are, yes. I reckon I could wait till the birth to find out, but my hubby is climbin up the walls wanting to find out what it is. lol!

And since we tell each other absolutely everything, there is no point in one knowing and the other not. So for the sake of our sanity, we will go ahead and spoil the surprise.  ;D

Neither of us care what it is, just so long as it's healthy. But I think hubby wants to be able to plan for the Wee One's arrival. (i.e. - to have a football ready in the birthing room or dollies and a football.)  ;)

I will keep ye posted!
