Title: Hello!!! Post by allisonrh on Jan 11th, 2005 at 8:16pm
Hey I'm Allison. I have an extreme obsession w/ hair products and of course trying to make my hair look perfect. I'm 14 (15 on Jan. 27) and I live in VA. Right now I'm thinking about putting color in. I never have before and I'm really scared. I wanna do something differen't b/c my hair is the exact same as when I was in elementary school! My hair is fine and kinda damaged right now b/c I swim and my natural color is starting to get light (I HATE CHLORINE) but as soon as my hair is good again I plan on dying it...just planning ahead right now.
me a year ago...try to get a more recent picture. Any opinions, recommendations, anything would be good |

Allison, welcome. Your hair is lovely. I hope you don't give up swimming, but chlorine really does do a number on hair. Sorry I don't have any advice for this, but you might find some good info around the boards here.
Happy Birthday, early! Met someone else today who has a birthday on the 27th - he'll be 88 :o Looking forward to chatting with you on the boards. |

Hiya Allison, and welcome!
I understand the need for change and the fear of the unknown that comes with it! One thing I would recommend for your hair before each swim is to lash a load of olive oil on your hair before getting in. At least that would provide some sort of a barrier of protection against the chlorine! Let us know how you get on with your hair traumas. This board is brilliant for problem solving! ;) Rua |

Welcome!!
Another swimmer! I swam for more years than I can count. A good clarifying shampoo and a moisturing conditioner is a must. Wanting change is typical at your age. You are trying to define who you are. Consider trying a new style with your hair such as braiding that does not require a more permanent change. Good luck and Happy Birthday! |

welcome to our cozy corner, allison!
Your hair is very pretty, and I look forward to a new picture to see it now. I agree with bikerbraid - It's so fun to experiment with fun new hairstyles when you have long hair - in highschool I always got TONS of comments on unusual braid styles. It's so fun copying styles you see in movies or on tv, and making up your own styles! (I have brown hair and bleached it many different colors of blond at that time - but later, growing it out was very difficult) hope to talk with you on the boards! nightowl |

Hi and welcome!
IMO, if your hair is damaged, coloring might make things worse. I agree with previous posters- try first some new hairstyles that aren't damaging. Perhaps you could also see, if you can find some new and interesting hair toy. |

Happy Birthday, Allison! Mine's on the 25th...20 years ahead of ya!
Have you tried those hair mascaras? You can add a splash of color that will wash out easily. I think you can get them at Sally's Beauty Supply. When I was your age I wish someone had suggested to me that I try different hair styles (braids and up-do's) 'cause when I got bored with my hair I chopped it from BSL to a chin length bob. It was fun for a few weeks, and then I wanted my long hair back. Good Luck! |
