Title: Scalp wash w/o wetting length Post by Annelise on Jan 19th, 2005 at 4:37am
Hello!
Has anyone else tried/thought about this--washing only the scalp while avoiding getting the rest of the length of one's long hair wet? I braided my waist length hair and enclosed it in a long plastic bag, securing it tightly at the top of my head, and proceeded to wash only my head...it turned out that not too much water seeped into the bag and got the length wet. My purpose is trying to cut down on the splayed-out, dry frizzy look that particularly plagues me during winter, and my "dirty" hair is more heavy and manageable than totally fresh-washed hair. My scalp is the thing that really needs the cleansing, daily at that.. So--does anyone have a different or better idea concerning this practice? I can't think of anything but the plastic bag-wrap tecnique. I would like to wash the length maybe once a week, but I don't know if that's possible or a good idea for oily hair. Thanks! Annelise |

I've done scalp washes many times. I do them when I don't have enough time for my hair to dry. I do them when the water conditions are not good for washing all of my hair.
I do the same as you described - braid my hair, put it a plastic bag which is closed tightly, then shampoo the scalp. I gone as long as 3 weeks without washing the length of my hair - and it still looked nice. The longest I have gone without washing the scalp hair is 6 days. I usually shampoo about every 5 days, depending on my physical activity and other conditions. |

I know some people wash their hair in a sink or bathtub so they don't have to deal with it in the shower. Has anyone done a scalp wash in the sink or something, and how did you contain the length of your hair? I tried, my problem was in getting the top of my head and my entire scalp. All I got was the front part.

I hung my braid on a hook over the kitchen sink before washing my scalp.
