Title: Olive Oil?
Post by AtlantisAllure on Jan 19th, 2005 at 6:24pm
I looked around this site and have read lots of good things about oiling...I see a lot of you use jojoba oil, but I was wondering about olive oil? My hair tends to get a bit frizzed at the ends and is a quite dry these winter months. So are there any benefits to using olive oil or should I join the crowd and use jojoba?

I think the benefits of using olive oil are great--it absorbs quickly and helps cut down on those frizzy ends that I get alot of in the winter.  It also doesn't leave an oily look, but a nice shine.  The way I do it is, I oil the ends of my braid before pinning it up and going to bed, rubbing the excess oil on my hands along the length of the braid.

Plus, if you're like me and you use it for cooking anyway, you always have some on hand!

I have never seen jojoba oil so I don't know how it prices up against olive oil...you can get a bottle of the store-brand olive oil relatively cheap though.

Jojoba is an extremely light oil, a liquid wax ester actually, and absorbs in seconds. Olive oil tends to be much heavier than jojoba, which can make it more difficult to use as a leave-in. Especially if you have thick hair. Frankly, I think olive oil works best as a pre-wash treatment. But others may disagree.

buuut there's a huge difference in price ;) Jojoba is SOOOO expensive if you don't buy in bulk! If olive oil works for you then by all means use it :)

Olive oil doesn't work for me.  It is either too heavy and leaves my hair greasy or my ends get crunchy.

Jojoba oil is more expensive, but worth it to me.
