WELCOME!
« on: Feb 28th, 2004, 7:55pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We've had lots of new people register here at LongLocks Salon. How about a short introduction about yourself? Here are a few questions you might (or might not) want to answer. How long is your hair? What color is your hair? Is your hair straight/curly/wavy? Do you have favorite products to use on your hair? What are your favorite hair accessories? My name is Linda going by Brad. I have hair to the middle of my back. My color is dishwater Blonde or dark blonde. Thin straight hair. ( Four years ago my sister would highlight it and one day I got a perm ruined my hair, I let my natural hair grow out, with the gray included and when it was down to my chin, I had it cut off.) I have been working on getting it long. I did grow out my bangs and had one lengh for a while and now a few layers with some bangs. Just so happen I have an appointment 3/12/05 for a cut and I think I will let the top layers (which I just had her do in Dec.) grow out as I just want long layers. I have used Nick Chavez (QVC) Natures Wisdom, shampoo and conditioner and now I'm trying Peter Coppola Body Builder also QVC Peter's products have soybean, vit B5,B12 Jojoba seed oil and more in the conditioner and the shampoo has the same. Nick Chavez has Aloe Vera, eucalyptus, pepperment and rosemary the print is so small I am unable to read, the bottles are empty and clear plastic so hard to read. Lately I wear my hair down and when I get home I put it all on top of my head with a scunchi. I hope to learn a lot, I have already learn how to wash my hair with out putting it all on top of my head and the cold water Nick Chavez talked about , but I didn't know that the cold water helps the shin. :D I'm glad I found this sight. Thank you PreciousLocks,
I love your saying, one silver hair at a time. I know I didn't say it all but you get the picture. Brad |
Title: Re: Welcome! Post by greek_lady on Mar 12th, 2005 at 4:58am I hope you won't cut off your hair too much. But even if you do and decide you want it longer afterwards, we will all be growing our hair together :) Welcome aboard g_l |

:) Thank you all for the great welcome. I haven't gone yet to get my hair cut.
I will ask her to just the tips on the bottom, no more than a 1/2 inch in between and I don't like the new layer I had her do on top so I'm telling her to let it grow out some. I'm very good about saying what I want done to my hair, I know how long it took to get it this lengh. Since I found this sight, it is like I have permission to let it grow even if your older with gray natural highlights. I love the color together with my dark blonde. Most of my life I have had long hair BUT never as long as some of you gals. You have inspired me, straight is beautiful. As my sister said to me once, "I've excepted that my hair is straight and I wash it and thats it, put a head band on to pull it back." Her hair was one lengh and to her waist, she cut it couple of years ago and gave it to Locks of Love and is now keeping it above her shoulders. I have to get going to my hair appointment, see you for now. Brad |

I've been back a while, my hair looks the same. I notice what she took off, to anyone else it doesn't look as though she did. I can still touch it when I bring my hand to the back. She still took some off that top layer which I said I wanted to grow out. There was a hair dresser there with long black hair to the waist almost, U shape at the ends and long layers.
I even pointed her out and said that is what I am going for. Question: In the past I have been know to trim my bottom myself. How would I go about the layers myself till it gets the lengh up on top as I would like it? All in all hair is the same. With all the styling they do and hair blowing to get the look and spray it, as soon as you go out and get home ,(with my hair so fine) when I got home it's all in the face. :o I pulled it up till I have time to play with it. How long should I (could I wait before going back). I was going between 8 and 10 weeks. Brad P.S. My hair is in good shape health wise. |

Technically you don't have to go back. :-/
Growing out layers is always a tough decision. Do you let it grow to your goal lenght, THEN trim until all the ends are the same length? Or, do you hold you hair at a shorter length while you trim up? The decision is yours. Hair grows at about 1/2" per month, so you need to careful that you don't trim off all your growth. |

Thank you, Bikerbraid.
This is what I say to my husband as soon as I like the lengh and I can see it is getting longer, I go in because I don't want my hair to be damage like I one had it, and I feel I went no where. I like my hairdresser, been going to her for about a year BUT!!!! :o I think I will trim it myself and my sister who does hair have her trim the top after i let it grow a good 3/4 inches. In Sept./Oct I think around. Hair grows faster in summer doesn't it. I could have my other sister trim the top as in Sept. we go away for a weekend. We do spa things, go shopping and out to dinner. This is an annual thing we started 3 years ago, so this Sept. will be our fourth.:) Brad |

hi & welcome to the board!

well, it's not such a hard decision: you grow as long as you think the ends look ok (i personally prefer even the look of layers on anything shorter than waist length (unless you have very straight or not a lot of hair). i am in the same boat as you. i trim every month or two but just like 1/8 - 1/4" so it's never more than a week or two of growth that i lose. but at some point i might have to do major trimming to get fuller ends (i think i'll start doing that when it gets past tailbone). |

Thank you, I have decided to let it grow and trim myself for a while or let one of my sisters do the area I will have trouble with.
I took a picture yesterday, but haven't tried to put it on the board yet. One I'm not sure how and Two I'm at work at the moment. Your right , layers make your hair look thinner, I did tell my hairdresser when she first did them that they couldn't be bold as I hate the look of thin hair. It doesn't look bad. Yesterday, I was playing with some sticks I have and never tried to use them...to my surprise they stayed in, french braid style. ( I think that is what they are called). Brad |
