Title: Aloe Vera--Uses?
Post by 13bodies on Mar 25th, 2005 at 8:01pm
I bought some aloe vera gel lately (Fruit of the Earth, from Wal-Moo) and I like it!   I mix it with a touch of oil for a hair gloss, I mix it into my conditioner and it seems to moisturize better, and I've even used it as a facial moisturizer with success (use a very small amount and rub well into damp skin.  I use lavender water to dampen)

I'm trying to avoid as many chemicals on my hair and skin that I can, and I was wondering--does anyone have other uses for aloe?

aloe vera is great for sunburns. so cooling and smoothe. i used to use it on my hair but my hair doesnt like it that much but im going to mix it with a drop of jojoba oil and see if it works. also some people use it as a gel for their hair. what type of hair do u have and how long is it. i have curly light brown bsl hair.

I've used aloe vera for sun burn treatment.  I've also used it to help control the flyaways in my braids, and buns.

I use aloe vera gel for minor burns and instead of hairspray. It gives some hold and helps in taming flyaways.

Curlygirl22, my hair is almost bsl.  I have an old perm on the ends, so the ends are a bit wavy, and reddish-brown.   My natural hair is straight,  medium-dark brown with more silver than I'd like.   It's also thick and heavy.  Plain aloe seems to make my hair gummy, but with a little oil it works well--my hair loves oil.

I like to put a few drops of jojoba oil on the ends and top layer while my hair is still wet from the shower, and then I use about 1-3 teaspoons of aloe vera gel ( I like Fruit of The Earth, too!)

After scrunching the av gel in, I gently scrunch a few times while it's drying.  It gives my hair nice loopy waves and the condition feels very nice.

SF - sounds like a great idea, I'll have to try it.

I used it to tame my braided hair - spreading a thin layer on my hands before braiding - it helped to keep the flyaways under control and keep my fine, slippery hair in the braid.
