Title: I bought some almond oil . . . Post by Bardot on Sep 3rd, 2005 at 3:34am
Hey everyone :),
I was out at the grocery store and came upon some almond oil. I bought it, but now I'm not sure what to do with it. Has anyone here had any experience using it? Do I just use it as I would jojoba oil? *Oh, and I also learned something new today. I found out that olive oil can fade colored hair :o! I was just about to start experimenting with it too. Thank god I stumbled upon that info! |

I use almond oil the same way I do jojoba. Just a couple drops on the ends. I also mix it with shea butter for a deeper conditioner for hair (and skin).

there are a lot of recipies that you can find, but i just heat it a little, then put it on the length of my hair, then put a little bit of conditioner (you dont have to put a conditioner) on top and sit for about 30 minutes, then rise.
HTH :) ps. it makes a yummy stir fry too ;D |

Ok, thanks :)!
I'm glad it can be used as a deep conditioner or as a leave-in. Maybe later I'll sit with it on under a heat cap. |

I like doing pre-wash oilings... that way it's also possible to eliminate the first C in a CWC, C-COW-C, etc., whatever your method may be.

Thanks Anais Satin! :)
But I have been finding that the oil leaves a kind of odor on my hair. The smell of the oil is not that bad but its not really all that pleasant either. I wish it smelled more like lavender oil ;D!. It also makes me wonder if it is keeping my other conditioners from penetrating since the oil seems to linger so long. |

If you don't like the smell, maybe add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the bottle :)
glad to help Anais |

Another idea - I'm thinking that perhaps clove, cinnamon or basil might be very nice with an almondy smell. Chocolate would be perfect but kinda hard to come by ;D...have fun, gabi

Oh man, if the ends of my hair smelled of chocolate and almonds, I'd be sucking on my hair all day!

Totally off the subject but I have a recipe that calls for chocolate extract, anybody ever seen or heard of that before? |

You should be able to find chocolate extract in the spice section of the store. My mom had a bottle in with her other extracts for years, but I don't think any of us ever used it. Back on the subject, how about melting together the almond oil with a dab of unrefined cocoa butter? I bet that would smell great. :D |

Thanks for the ideas :)! I can't wait to try them. Oh, and let me know if someone tries that chocoloate extract in their hair :D.

Were you talking about a hair recipe or food recipe? I was going to use vanilla extract in shea butter for my hair and decided against it. Is has a 55% alchohol content. If you use choco extract in your hair, be wary of the alchohol. Cynde |

Hey Khrome, I have been meaning to tell. I found the other day a company here that makes and sells "fresh" cosmetics out of herbs and eo's and the like. Among other things they sell hair stuff like solid shampoos, hair mayo and rinses. One of their rinses has chocolate in it! And of course I bought it! It's DIVINE! I kept smelling my hair next day all day. And would go up to friends and tell them to smell my hair too! LOL It really is very yummie! |

Mmmm, doesn't it make you crave chocolate? LOL It sounds heavenly!
I have a hot fudge sundae waiting for me in the freezer, but I'm holding off until tonight. But all I can think about is that sundae. It would be worse if I could smell it. mmmmmmm Cynde |
