Title: Yeah, sure, i can do it... Post by maggie on Sep 26th, 2005 at 3:51pm
Why, oh why, oh why do i ALWAYS do this to myself...always, always, ALWAYS! I should just walk around with "i love to bite off more than i can chew" on my forehead! Here it is, 5 days before a halloween art expo that i agreed to be in, 5 days. Yup, 5 days. So now ask maggie how many pieces she has ready to fill up that eeeeeeiiiiiiiiight fooooooooooooot table that they're giving her. Go 'head....ask.
*You ask: "How many, Maggs?" *Maggie: "<mumbles something inaudible while caughing & scratching nose & forehead>" *You say: "What was that, 10 Maggie? That's great!" * Maggie: <looks up from her shoes, is now scratching the back of her neck (she suddenly appears to be furiously itchy), looks up at the ceiling and and caughs out another reply...sounds mayble like....."some"? *You reply: "Some? Ok, well some is certainly better than none, maggie. Don't feel bad." *Maggie: <Takes a very deep breath, puffs cheeks on the exhale> *You: "Maggie?" *Maggie: <turning red> *You: "Maaaaaggggggie?" *Maggie: <Takes a chance at a cheap smile and eyebrow raise> *You: "You said 'none', didn't you? Not ten, not some, but 'none'." *Maggie: <Points and redirects your attention to the sky, takes off like a wounded dog!> "Yeah, sure, i'd love to be a part of the gallery", I say. "Oh yes, I know I'm busy, but I'll make time", I say. "I'll be there with bells on", I say. Yeah, I actually said that. So again, here it is 5 days before the showing, and I have NOTHING!!!!! I can't & won't back out, I need to create my little buns off this week! Does anyone else do this to themselves, or is this just my chronic little sick game i keep playing on myself? Yeah sure fine, i can run a business, buy the business and now own the building and have to fix it up and rent it out and have tenants and keep up with all of that and keep everthing organized and run a household and, and, and...be in an art show? What, oh what was I thinking? Ok, it's ok, small breakdown, breathe, breathe, breathe, bbbrrrrrreeeeeeaaaaaathe.................ok. I can do this. I can do this, right guys? Tell me i can do this......yikes! |

Of course you can do it. We have confidence in you.
Busy people can always find a way to get things done. You are a busy person, so of course, you can do it. (Now tell me, what is it you have to create? :-X ) |

I know you can, I know you can, I know you can, I know you can...
You must accept the fact that you will accomplish this task and immediately eliminate any idea to the contrary. Keep your focus, delegate where you can in other areas of your life and get 'r' done! Will there be pictures to follow?? I love art. |

You can DO IT!!! RA RA RA! And make sure you take plenty of pics of your creations. ;D
Think of it this way, all you really need is one, big, 8-foot long creation. Hee Cynde |

Of course you can do it, Maggie. After all, you've five days and while that might not seem as long as you'd like, it's plenty.
Go, Go, Go MAGGIE! So what is it that you've got to create? Like Khrome said, ya just need one big 8 footer, or two 4 footers, or four 2 footers... ;D |
Title: Re: Yeah, sure, i can do it... Post by maggie on Sep 27th, 2005 at 1:05pm
...Ok, ok, feeling better, feeling better...
You guys make the most awesome cheerleading squad i've ever seen! Khrome, you really made me laugh, the thought of one eight foot creation is hilarious! I could just envision myself gluing every & anything together and checking it with a tape measure until it's big enough! That's so funny! ;D So what the deal is is is, is that this is an annual art show that is held in the macabre little town of Jim Thorpe, PA-maybe some of you have heard of it? It's a cool little town that attracts a lot of tourists mostly because of its history of the Molly Maguires (they were an Irish 'secret society' that committed several murders in Jim Thorpe- has to do with the coal mines in 1800's) and also because of some awesome architecture. Anyway, there are several artists invited to participate from all over the country, and each one is allotted the space of one eight foot table to display their items on. Each person's style is different, some are doing just paintings, some sculptures, I know one girl does all sorts of pinatas, and the woman hosting does her own thing with pieces of furniture by reassembling and painting and putting her own touches on them. So I am asked to do whatever I would like, as long as it fits into the halloween theme. I have been working of some ideas, i just really hope i can pull it off! I'll be sure to post some pics for you guys to see-some of the stuff is kind of dark & off the wall, though! Here is a link to the event, there is an example of one of my pieces about half way down the page on the right hand side, listed under 'Floristic Creations', if you'd like to see! http://www.halloweenopera.com/artists.shtml Thanks again for all the support, it means the world to me! ...go maggie....go maggie....go maggie (doing the cabbage patch)...! |

UPDATE:UPDATE:UPDATE:
<wiping some sweat off her forehead>... I almost have two pieces completely finished, I should have those done w/in the hour. My goal is to have at least four finished pieces by the end of the day, I think that's realistic. By the end of Friday (deadline) I hope to have at least 10 pieces to show, we have to go friday night to set up for sat. morning. I'm always challenging myself like this, I had months to work on these projects, but waited until the last week to get started...with all do respect ladies & gent, I think that I will wear the procrastination crown for a while! Someone else will have to earn it off of me (I'll gladly hand it over)! Off to work! -maggs |

GOOD NEWS GUYS.......I SURVIVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
It was one of the coolest experiences of my life, I feel so fortunate to have been a part of it! For eight hours, I was surrounded by some of the nicest, coolest, most talented people I have ever encountered...amazing! There was so many different styles of art, from paintings, to hand-sculpted dolls (these blew my mind, a young girl was making these from nothing more than tin foil & clay! She had a bit of a Tim Burton style to give you an idea), to photographs, to shadow boxes, to you name it! I was only able to finish & take 8 pieces, one of which had to be donated to the raffle basket, so 7 for my table...but with proper spacing & props it worked out just fine! ;) I thought of all of you while I was setting up and laughed to myself thinking about...one eight foot arrangement, or two four foot arrangements...so funny! I sold two pieces to out-of-staters, and one of them said they would be calling in a few weeks for some custom work, this is a whole new world for me. In a way, I felt very vulnerable just sitting there next to my table of stuff, it was like I put my heart and soul on display and it was just out there subjected to the scrutiny of anyone who felt like looking. I always did this kind of stuff, but only for myself, rarely would I let anyone see. Not that I was ashamed or anything, just that every piece is extremely personal and has a story behind it, and most of the stories are not ones that I feel like telling! So this is definetly a new experience for me, and it feels a bit wierd knowing that some of my artwork is "out there", other people are looking at it, giving there opinions, and probably wondering "what the hell was she thinking when she made this?!" I was asked to come back again next year, which I absolutely look forward to doing- but much more prepared this time! 8) I WILL remember to bring price tags, I WILL remember to bring bags and packaging, and most importantly, I WILL remember to not procrastinate! So, a big thanks again everyone, (((((((( Luv you guys! )))))))))! |
Title: Re: Yeah, sure, i can do it... Post by bikerbraid on Oct 3rd, 2005 at 2:00pm
I'm sooooo glad it was a positive experience for you. And you even made some sales - EXCELLENT! Congrats.
Now make your list of what you need to have ready for next year and put it on your calendar for AUGUST! (If not earlier!!) |
Title: Re: Yeah, sure, i can do it... Post by maggie on Oct 3rd, 2005 at 2:40pm
Yes, exactly! I think I am ready to pass the 'procrastination crown' on! Anyone want it? Anyone? No? OK, then I'll just burn it!

Title: Re: Yeah, sure, i can do it... Post by maggie on Oct 3rd, 2005 at 6:07pm
I was so worried about getting things completed and set up, that photos were the last thing i thought of :-[. I realized as I was on my way that I had forgotten my digital camera, so I stopped and picked up a disposable- I did snap a few shots, if they came out well I will post them. Can you do that w/ a reg. camera? I don't have a scanner...I'll have to figure this one out.

Title: Re: Yeah, sure, i can do it... Post by PreciousLocks on Oct 3rd, 2005 at 10:01pm
Congratulations on your success Maggie!
I imagine you can post pics from a regular camera -- often when you have the film developed there will be a spot to indicate you want the pics on a CD or even e-mailed to you, then you can get them on-line from there. (I have not done this personally, mind you, just doing some thinking in the event I ever get a pic or two on my reg camera worth posting). |

Title: Re: Yeah, sure, i can do it... Post by khrome on Oct 6th, 2005 at 6:24am
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I can't wait to see the pics. I know exactly how you feel about your art being about "you". That's how it is for me - most of my art is packed away in art folders. Last year, the company I worked for had an employee art show, and I contributed a few pieces. It was so odd to hear what people thought, even though it was positive. It's almost like... running nekkid through a mall parking lot! Almost. but not quite. :)
