Title: questions about a certain faith Post by Trisha on Oct 5th, 2005 at 4:18pm
I'm sorry to write such a vague subject line but...
I'm hoping there's at least one person of the Wicca faith out there who can point me in the right direction of some good websites and maybe even some good books to read. If you don't want to reply to this message then please feel free to email me at pjsander@yahoo.com. |

Title: Re: questions about a certain faith Post by Moonchild on Oct 5th, 2005 at 5:48pm http://www.druidry.org Try copying and pasting the above in your browser. It has some interesting articles in there, comparing druidry with wicca......what it is and what it ain't. It's been a while, but I have done some extensive research on paganism, but the majority of the sites I used were in German. Sorry. :-/ This is a very interesting topic. Choose carefully what you want for yourself. |

Some great books for begginners that I highly recommend are Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner and Living Wicca by Scott Cunninham. Hope that helps. Blessed Be! ;D

I agree, these are very down to earth books and great for beginners. |

I highly recommend any books by Starhawk, Barbara Walker, and Scott Cunningham. All of these will point you in the proper direction.
Starhawk's 'Spiral Dance' is a great first book to buy. Good luck in your journey & blessed be! |

My favorite is a book by Philip Carr-Gomm, called The Druid Way

I love the Spiral Dance, Starhawk has some really interesting spells in the back. I wish she would do something more autobiographical, her life seems so interesting. Has anyone read A Witch Amoung Us by Lois Bourne? It's out of print now but I still see copies here and there.

Thanks to all who responded! :)
A funny thing happened over the weekend...(no, that's not an intro to a joke! *lol*) I suddenly remembered purchasing the book "Wicca" by Scott Cunningham a few years ago. I started digging around in my stash of books that I keep stored in the basement and viola!, there it was. Coincidence? I think not! I'll tell y'all what--I'm a big believer in signs, omens if you will. Ever since I started exploring Wicca, the signs are good...really good. Trisha |

I'm Wiccan too... A book I LOVE is called 21st Century Wicca, by Jennifer Hunter. I also love Phyllis Curott.

Kimberlily, you're the first person I've seen besides myself to use "Brightest blessings" on the boards! :) At first I was ":o whoaaaaa...."

Wicca is something that has always piqued my curiosity, but I have never taken the step to dig in to see what it's all about. What exactly is the wiccan belief and how do you practice it? Are there gatherings (like churches), or is it something you just practice alone? This thread really has me interested.

Maggie, Wicca is very personal. Some people join groups (called covens) and practise together, but most of us practise solitary. Personally, I prefer practising solitary, because it gives me the freedom to dance to the beat of my own drummer, and follow my own heart, instead of going by the rules/traditions of a particular group.
That said, group work is very powerful, and something that I do enjoy... but mostly, I like to be on my own. Anais, that's funny! You know, it was through you that I found this board... I clicked on your journal link on HairBoutique.com's board, and here I am! |

More for Maggie:
Beliefnet has a great section on Pagan religion http://www.beliefnet.com/index/index_10015.html http://www.witchvox.com/ is an excellent resource as well, and I always direct curious non-Wiccans there for information. This article is excellent http://www.witchvox.com/va/dt_va.html?a=usfl&c=words&id=10112 |

I agree Witchvox is a great place for info and to meet fellow pagans. Until recently I was a solitaire, but now I celebrate the Sabbats with a local group. Its not really a coven though, so I guess I'm still mostly solitaire. But there is a huge difference doing ritual by yourself and celebrating with a group. I think its great that there are so many wiccans/pagans on here. ;D |
