Title: Harry Potter GoF discussion
Post by khrome on Nov 26th, 2005 at 8:22am
I'm starting this thread because I have some questions about the movie.  So this thread will have spoilers!  Don't read if you plan to watch the movie (or if you don't mind spoilers)  Scroll no further if you don't want to read it

Okay, so I was talking about HP on another board and someone mentioned as a side note "it's too bad Hermione had to die.  I was looking forward to her in the next movies."   Eh?  did I miss something?  I wasn't sure if he was talking about somthing that happened in the book that wasn't clear in the movie.  Or maybe he was talking about her when she was chained underwater.  Yet another thing was how she was unusually upset about talking about the death curse.  So does anyone else have an impression that Hermione died?

No...she does not die.  Other people die in other books but not Hermione.  Wonder where he got that from?  I think he's just pulling your chain.

No she does not die. Like Lisabelle said he must be trying to get to you or something. she doesn't even get hurt or anything.

ETA: Plus in Harry Potter there are only 3 main chracters, she can't kill off one of them. Can she? ???

I mean she has already killed two of my favorite characters :'(

Yeah, I think he was yanking your chain. Either that, or he was watching a version of Harry Potter no one's ever seen.  :P

Okay good - that's what I thought.  He's usually not one to yank chains, which was why I doubted my movie-comprehension.  :)  He probably just got the names mixed up, or maybe he got confused himself.

Thanks for the input!

Harry Potter of Azkaban ( dont know if i spelled that right) is coming 9am on HBO. I will watch it for my first time and think about all the long lockers who watch Harry Potter.  All this rave about it and im dying to watch it. Someone asked me on Thanksgiving if i had watched  the new movie, but i had never watched any of the Harry Potter movies. How many H P movies are there? When i am done watching the movie I will put my reviews up on this board.

I haven't heard that rumor, but I hope she doesn't die in it!

I loved GOF too and saw it twice in three days.  ::)

Curlygirl22- i'm glad that you liked the movie, and yes one 16 year old dies- but he is not a main character- one thing that i learned about the Harry Potter books, is that someone dies in every book :-/

Juri- is the movie that good? I relly never like the movies much, cuz they change SOOOO much, and it really messes the story up :-/ Have you read the books?

I'm not Juri, but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents.  I think that the 4th movie is probably my favorite, although the 1st one might still win out.  The 2nd, and especially the 3rd movies irritated me with how much was taken out/changed, and both of them just felt forced in my opinion.  GOF did change some things, but mostly it just left out parts of the story (big parts).  I had lengthy discussions about everything they left out with friends who had read the books, but it was a movie that could absolutely stand on its own.   Even if you didn't read the books, you got the point, and enjoyed the story.   And if you did read the books, it was obvious that things were missing, but nothing crucial that I felt ruined the movie for what it was.

Beesan--While there are some parts in GOF that made me go  :-/ because the scenes shifted rather abruptly (especially in the beginning), overall, I really liked it. I've read all the book and the fourth one is my least favorite because there's so many side stories, so I didn't mind that the writers only included the more important parts. SPEW and more Rita Skeeter would have been interesting, but the movie would have been even longer and 2.5 hours is rather long already. Anyway, I've kind of separated the franchise so in my mind there's "book-version Harry Potter" and "movie-version Harry Potter." But if you want a terrible movie adapatation of a book, read "The Relic" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, and then watch the movie. Ugh!

Yeah, after the third book (my favorite=Serious), the books have way too many side stories, especially the 5, and 6th you don't understand a thing until you get to chapter 4 or 5 :-/

I will read The Relic, and if I like it I probably won't watch the movie :-X

The only movie that i liked better than the book, is Anne of Green Gables, especially cuz they have the same actors in all the movies. I really want to watch The Continuing(sp?) Story- i'm trying to get it from the library, but the waiting list is sooo long :-/
