Title: Deep Conditioner Post by wishing4longhair on Feb 8th, 2006 at 9:01pm
I don't know if I've asked this before, but I can't find it if I have. ::)
What does everyone prefer to use for a deep conditioner? How does it work? What products (if some specific ones work for you) are best? Thanks Meg |

I don't deep condition often. About once a month I use Aussie 3Minute Miracle - I leave it in for about 15 minutes.
I also put extra jojoba oil on my hair before I take a sauna, which makes my hair nice and soft as well. |

Olive oil and coconut oil make great deep conditioners too. They make your hair soft. I have found that coconut oil is very light and absorbs quickly into the hair. I use the kind you buy at the supermarket, in the cooking oils section.
I deep condition my ends every night by slathering them with coconut oil. This makes them VERY soft. I don't usually do a whole-head deep condition because my hair is naturally very oily anyway. Except for the ends. :) |

I used to do weekly deep conditioning treatments with a product from the Body Shop (can't remember what it was called) and it worked nicely. But after I ran out, I slacked off with the treatments. Now I'm lucky if I bother to do one DT a month. The last time I did one I used coconut milk and it worked really well. The only problem was getting all of the milk out of my hair. I missed a couple of spots and those places looked a bit greasy for a day or two.

Title: Re: Deep Conditioner Post by ummabbaas on Apr 7th, 2006 at 5:11pm My favorite deep conditioner is optimum supreme. It's the one that i reach for when ever i think my hair is "going drown the drain". I deep condition every2-3 weeks. then of course there was that thread on mixing shea butter into your conditioner. I love the results. A friend mixed my shea butter with tumeric and olive oil and stirred until smooth then put it in the freezer, to make it set quickly. It turned out wonderful. I use it on my skin as well. the mouse speaks umm abbaas |

I use some extra vigin olive oil since it's already in my pantry (but you can use regular...but cooking with it...it's rather bland..extra virgin is better). It's also more economic to by the extra virgin for cooking and for hair, using the same bottle. I also put sweet almond oil and I've tried my vitamin e oil which contains coconut and soybean oils (it worked nicely). I give myself a scalp treatment/massage with the oils once a week and wash it out. Oh and "KeeWee" oil in the African American section of the store is pretty good too. I still find it sad how they don't have more natural things for every type of hair and its only in one section (and its in a separate part of the store sometimes).

I just got my coconut oil from the store. I had some 1 1/2 years ago for my hair but soon gave up. The bottle was so hard to get into i had to use a steak knife to pry a whole in the plastic top only to later have it solitify (sp?) in the bottle. So, instead I used it with a mixture of shea butter,and olive oil to ward off stretch marks when i was pregnant. worked wonderfully. ummi (means my mother) thinks i'm nuts and going overboard but, I need these things. Shrugs, once she sees me filing the rough hair killings edges off of each tooth on my comb she'll really think i'm off my rocker LOL the mouse speaks umm abbaas |
