Title: Indian Hemp
Post by Sara on Mar 22nd, 2006 at 1:14am
Has anyone used any products containing Indian Hemp? I was at the pharmacy and picked it up. It seemed like the only natural stuff was in the area for "textured hair" and even though I'm not African American, I figured "maybe biker braid has done something similiar  and look alot of it is natural!" Anyway, used it with a hot oil treatment and it seems to have worked nice.

::) ::blush:: thanks for the confidence, but I'm afraid I don't know much about Indian hemp.  Maybe someone else can chime in with some info?

I've used Indian hemp oil. The biggest problem with this oil is that it needs to be refrigerated and has a very short shelf life. I like to decant my oil into an amber bottle and carry it around in my purse or bag.... so hemp oil isn't the most convenient. It also smells like freshly cut grass. Some people like that, but I'm not a big fan. I use hemp oil in combination with several others to make natural lotion that contains vitamin E (a preservative, so that improves the shelf life despite the hemp), but not the oil by itself.

The seed oils tend to have shorter shelf life. Flaxseed, hempseed, grapeseed...

The nuts as a general rule tend to last longer on the shelf. jojoba (jojoba nut), sweet almond, coconut...

hope this helps
