Title: Hair vitamins Post by fairyprincess on Apr 8th, 2006 at 7:03am
Hey everybody!
Im new here, and was just wondering what everyones thoughts were towards hair vitamins and supplements. I was considering buying some, but wasnt sure if they are worth the money. I am aware that they will not make your hair grow faster, but has anyone experienced better quality of hair, as in thicker, stronger, shinier etc after using them for a period of time? Thanks for your help Corinne :P |

I don't take any supplements or vitamins. I believe that what you put into your body will show in your skin, hair, nails and body. But if ya did want to try something,I've heard that silica is very good for your hair. I've read up on it and it confirms what I've heard about it. Good luck and welcome to LL :)

Eating healthy and being healthy are the best ways to grow healthy hair. There are many supplements on the market that are specifically for hair. I've found a good daily vitamin to work well. When I was experiencing a lot of shedding, I added silica and biotin, but I don't take those all the time, just when I do a lot of shedding in the fall.

Thanks for your help guys! The reason I was asking is because I dont exactly eat healthy. I dont really eat junk, but i rarely eat fruit and vege, which I know is bad for your hair! I think I will try some silica,
Thanks again Corinne ;) |

well considering over 90% of a humans vitamins are from fruits, veggies, and grains, I don't know if I'd consider eating habbits like rarely eating any fruits or veggies really counting as eatting even slightly good. ??? (Im supposing there are no doctors on here to get on your case for that one lol ;) )
but its probably going to do more for your hair (your body, skin, energy level, etc.) to be eatting a little bit better (they wern't joking when they reccomended 5 servings of veggies a day) as well vitamins direct from your food sources are absorbed by your body much easier then vitamins you will ever take in pill form so it may do your hair (and your pocket book) better just to watch what you eat a little. :) that said even if you do eat healthy I have been told by a few doctors who believe everyone should take a multi-vitamins. As well, when I was pregnant I was told when your hair and nails grow its not because of your hormones so much, but the prenatal vitamins you are taking, and for people to take those. now I notice a difference in my nails (not my hair) when I remember to take my muti-vitamin on a regular basis, Im sure there is a difference in my hair too, I just don't notice. I have always wondered myself though if there was a big difference in a hair vitamin supplement, if there was anything in it thats not in a GOOD multi-vitamin. I love reading this board, I will look into sillica :) can't hurrt |

Where can you get silica and biotin? Do you have to get them separately or can you find them in a multivitamin?

Some hair/nail supplement formulas have them both along with lots of other things. You could check the health food/supplement stores for those.

Nioxin puts out a multivit. pill with biotin in it but I didn't check for the silica in it. I take two multi a day so I'm just going to buy the biotin. Its supposed to be fairly cheap. Nioxin here is about $17.50 a month.

My name is Leelee and I am new to the forum. I have my hair many lengths and colors throughout the years, but within the last five years have decided to let it grow out. The answer to growing long healthy hair begins with a healthy attitude. The way a person acts or thinks plays a major role in how healthy their body is. My secret is to read my Bible and pray daily. "The joy of the LORD is your strength." All good things come from GOD who created all things. And for added strength try 2500 mcg's of biotin daily or Appearex 2.5 mg, daily. GOD BLESS!!!

Hi!! I'm Xandergrammy and I'm new too. I've been taking GNC Hair, Skin and Nail Supplements for about a year and I really like them. I'm not able to eat all the fruits and veggies I should.

I have had great experiences with Hair, Skin, and Nails Vitamins.. if taken every day you will start to see fuller, healthier hair within the first few weeks... these can be found at many drugstores, as many different brands make similar products.
I would definitely recommend these to everyone! :D |

Hi fairyprincess,
Yes, I am taking lots of hair vitamins these days!!!! But I also eat lots of foods that are very high in proteins and iron, and I also eat my fresh fruits and veggies too. Right now I am taking hair vitamins from Hairformula37. I think they are really worth it. They have really helped speed up my hair growth rate within the last 2 years that I've been taking them!!!! They also help with the health of my hair leaving nice, shiny, and healthy looking and feeling. They've helped my hair to appear, feel, and grow thicker faster. Before I started taking any hair vitamins I was only getting 1/2 inch of new growth per month. My hair was growing very slow at mone point. But now that I take lots of hair vitamins my hair is just sprouting out all over the place!!!! I am also taking vitamins by Nature's Bounty for Hair, Skin, and Nails as well. I am mixing them along with the Hairformula37's, and they all are just working my hair and body wonders!!!! I used to take vitamins from the GNC stores but I had to stop. Because, I couldn't afford the price of them. So, I had to find something cheaper, and that really works just as good, and now I have. Now with buying Hairformula37 you have to join their membership. It is a lot cheaper to do so. Other thand just ordering directing from the website or certain bottles of vitamins. You see, when I joined I only paid $39.99 a year, and throughout the whole year each month they will keep sending you the vitamins but you do have to put each month. You see, each month you are paying for the cost of the vitamins. You see. the vitamins work through by steps. Like, Step 1, and Step 2, then you have your Herbal Growth Vitamins. But the website is at: www.fasterhairgrowth.com or www.hairformula37.com. But their products are really wonderful!!!! I've also tried their GROW!Shampoo & Conditioner as well!!!! It is is really nice!!!!! I've bought 2 sets of it, and I still have some left over from last year. But if you really want to know if the whole program works it is best to try the whole programs including the vitamins, shampoo & conditioner. But I take lots and lots of vitamins for my overall body and hair. I hope that I have helped you?!!? Blondie35 |
