Title: lots of questions
Post by veronica vert on Apr 16th, 2006 at 10:03pm
My name's Vee.  Veronica Vert is my pen name; i'm a writer.  My hair reaches the tip of my tail bone, and i wear it in a tight bun.  My boyfriend is still amazed, after three years, that i can get all of my hair into such a little ball.  Of course, i put it up while it's wet.  My hair is dark brown in the winter, due french heritage, and light with a reddish tint in the summer, due to scottish heritage, and it is super thick, but thinning the more it gets weighed down.

i would like to start off with two questions.
First, can someone explain to me how to put a picture from my documents onto my profile.
Secondly, as i have stated, i always wear my hair pulled back into a sleek bun.  There are few who have seen it any other way, except once at a masquerade.  So, i would like to find an updo for prom that isn't as strict as a bun, but would allow the back of my dress, which is awsome to show.

i would also like to thank everyone here for being so helpful and welcoming.
Thank you.

Greetings, Veronica, and welcome to LongLocks.  :)

I am a writer with a little bit of French heritage as well. Your hair sounds lovely, and amazingly long!

As for posting your own pic, first you'll have to find a site that will host it with its own personal URL. After that, simply copy that URL and paste it in the "I have my own pic" box in your Profile. This link may be helpful: http://www.longlocks.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=tips;action=display;num=1100146244

Be careful of tight hairstyles - they are quite damaging. Hair can only be stretched so far so often before it breaks off.
As for your prom, I would recommend having a professional put into an updo...especially if said professional specialized in long hair styles. You could also wear either a French twist or Gibson style - both are quite elegant and would allow the back of your dress to show.
You could also get hair-safe accessories, like flowers, jeweled spins or hair sticks that match your dress. From the back, this will draw the eye downward so folks will notice the detail on the back of your dress.

Hope this helps. Best of luck and happy growing!  :)

Welcome!

As Angel Spun mentioned - you should be careful to not pull your hair too tightly.  Too much tension on the hair can cause a permanent loss of hair (recending hairline).  This is common with dancers and others that wear their hair in this style continually.

Have you tried to braid your hair before putting it into a bun?  How about a figure 8 bun?  French braiding is also nice for special occasions.

Welcome!

I also like sleek buns- I wear a bun almost every day, spicing it up with hair jewelry.

A Flamenco bun would be nice and dressy for prom: make a center part to your hair, and twist each side to a low bun. Decorate with pretty hairtoys.

Other suggestions given here are also great. Long hair has so many options!

Welcome to LongLocks, Vee.  Your hair sounds lovely!  Hope you find a beautiful style for your prom --- lots of good suggestions here already.  You could even do a bun with some accent braids with or without ribbons braided in, and flowers to decorate.  Let us know what you decide, and post a pic if you can!

Welcome, Vee! :)

An option for a prom updo might be to put the majority of your hair into a bun, and leave about 6 inches out.  Then, curl the ends with either a curling iron or rollers (but spritz a little leave-in conditioner on your hair to protect it from the heat) and pin the curly ends around your bun as you are so artistically inclinded.  ;D

It's a simple updo with a little va-va-voomness that I think you're looking for... also, you can make it memorable with some hair jewelry... anything sparkly for that matter... I've slipped a bobby pin through the stick of a brooch and pinned that into my hair before.

If you do decide to go to a salon, though, you might want to call ahead and let them know about the length of your hair, and that you're trying to take care of it.  That said, don't let them back-comb your hair!  :o  More often than not, a salon "fancy do" involves quite a bit of the back-combing and teasing... and does a really bad number on your hair.

Welcome, Vee! Everyone's given you great suggestions about what you could do with your hair. If you haven't seen this site already, Dreamweaver Braiding could give you some hair style ideas.
