*steps out of hogan*
*looks around* (_^) (^_^) (^_) Hi! Science fiction fan here from Dallas Tx USA. My hair is about waist length. It was to my butt but I cut it a bit. Kept sitting on it when driving. :P I've been looking for a stylist whom knows how to handle long hair. Most stylists I've meet want to comb my hair with this comb that has lots of teeth really close together and they want to comb my hair when it's wet from the top. With great belief in pulling. >:( Ouch!:'( I've started growing my hair long due to default really. My stylist retired and I've had "bad hair styles from heck" that would chase evil spirits away. LOL! ;D She always knew what she was doing and didn't give me bad hair dos. And now that I've spent a few years growing my hair (and trying not to weep over late spring/summer shedding) I would like a stylist whom I could go to a couple times a year to trim and chop off split ends. And yes, I realize that the shedding is probably just my body's way of trying to cool off. I don't shed in the fall. Just here to ask around about a good stylist (not that I'll be styling my hair anytime soon) and say hi. Oh, for curls... I have naturally straight hair. I was at a beauty supply store and saw some fake hair pieces. Now since I don't want to touch a curling iron to my hair, is it posible to curl a fake piece and have it dangling out of or from under your bun? Just curious. (^_^)/ BEM *going back to lurking in my hogan* |

Welcome!
I too ended up with long hair due to the retirement of my stylist. Too many bad cuts and lots of money for those bad cuts, results in NO CUTS! I'm not in the Texas area, so I have no suggestions for you for a new stylist, I don't see why you couldn't add a hairpiece with curls to help out your style. Afterall, that's what the models and actresses do! |

Oh, I've been cruising around this message board place trying to find where I get the "codes" for my hair type. I saw it once sometime back but forgot where it was.

Welcome to longlocks, BEM.
If you're living in a hogan, does that mean you're native american? Aho! I'm in AZ, but I'd suggest you ask other local longhairs where they get their hair trimmed or ask in a salon if they have anyone who specializes in longhair. I know how bad it sucks to go from having a great/perfect stylist to "bad hair styles from heck". I have had the best luck finding a good new stylist by asking people who's hair is similar type to mine and looked really good who their stylist is. I don't think you can curl a fake hairpiece-buy it already curled. I bet it will look cute! I'm also a sci fi fan. Look forward to hearing more about you! |

Only part, but I like the idea of the hogan being the "center" and always coming back to it when you wander off. Sort of like the internet. >I'm in AZ, but I'd suggest you ask other local longhairs >where they get their hair trimmed or ask in a salon if >they have anyone who specializes in longhair. I've asked around my area, but all the longhairs I've seen (and some of them have really nice hair) care for it at home. The women in the family apparently all take turns helping each other out with trimming and conditioning and such. snippity do da... >have had the best luck finding a good new stylist by >asking people who's hair is similar type to mine and >looked really good who their stylist is. >I don't think you can curl a fake hairpiece-buy it >already curled. I bet it will look cute! I'll ask at the beauty store. It's just that I was remember a bit out of a British sci-fi where a female star had long hair with an attachment. Only darned thing was the peroxide blonding of her hair. >I'm also a sci fi fan. Stargate! Didn't you love Hathor's wig! (^_^) / BEM |

Welcome!
Finding a good stylist who knows how to handle long hair is difficult. One possibility is, that you learn to trim yourself (many people use Feye's self trimming method) or have a trusted friend/relative to do it. If you aren't after fancy cuts, the basic cuts (straight, u-shape, v-shape) are easy. |

Welcome.
The others are right. It's nice to have long hair that you can say "the only people who touch it are me and (fill in the blank with the name of someone who helps you trim)" There is nothing (that is healthy for your hair) that a stylist can do that you can't do yourself with practice and patience. Good luck and hi. Meg |

:-? I'm still here. So why did I see myself listed as an ex-member. I don't get to post a lot... been busy. Still have long hair. Trying to see how long I can go without washing now.
;D/ BEM |

Hi and welcome back! I fixed your profile so that you should no longer show up as an ex-member. (That status was the result of a glitch during the last upgrade).
