Title: Spacing out Vitamins Post by Rapunzel_wannabe on Jun 15th, 2006 at 2:58pm
So I was wondering if it's a bad thing to take all your assorted vitamins and supplements at once. I'd imagine that at least one person has as many as I do (I'm at 6 right now- just added three new ones yesterday) and I was thinking it'd be better to space them out, wouldn't it? And is there a way to decide when you should take what? Like if Vitamin E is easier absorbed at night or something. Or is it alright to take all six at once? Maybe I'm not looking for facts as much as opinions, but I would very much like to hear your take on the situation.
TIA, R_W |

Well depending on what type of vitamins you're taking, certain ones can affect the absorption of certain others, so you should probably look into that before anything else.
When I was taking hair vitamins, I had to be careful to take them at least 2 hours after taking my regular medication because I didn't want the vitamins to interfere with the medication's absorption in any way. The results might have been dangerous or at the very least, have made my meds less effective. So definitely look into that. If it turns out that none of your vitamins will affect the other (or better, if they will boost one another's effectiveness), I'd say take them all at once. It's easier that way anyway. |

I'm taking:
~GNC Nourishair (2) ~Flaxseed oil (1) ~Evening primrose oil (1) ~Biotin (1-2 depending, I'm not sure yet) ~Vitamin E (1) maybe it'll help if you know what exactly I'm taking! ;D |

Look into drug interactions, Rapunzel_wannabe, especially if you take a precription medication. There are lots of drugs that interact in a negative fashion, vitamins included.
That said, I usually take vitamins at night before I go to bed. Only because, though, that vitamin burps are the worst.. :P |

I am not familiar with GNC nourishair supplements, but most supplements need to be taken with food. This is because food helps with absorption especially oil-bound supplements. If your GNC pill has calcium in it, check the amount per dose. The body can only absorb 600 mg of calcium at a time so split those pills to breakfast and supper. Also, anything with iron in it should not be taken with calcium. The high-dose calcium interferes with the uptake of iron. If your GNC supplement already has vitamin b and e in it, take the biotin and e vitamins at lunch. Hope this helps.

P.S. the calcium needs to be with vitamin D in order for the body to properly absorb it and asimilate it.
