Title: Prayer Request Post by Angel Spun on Jul 6th, 2006 at 2:01am
Hey All,
This afternoon when I arrived at work, I received some extremely troubling news. About a week ago, my former husband was involved in a motorcycle accident. He hit a median strip in the middle of the road which launched him off of his bike. His body sustained no serious injuries, but the head injury was quite severe, even though he had been wearing a helmet. When medics arrived, they pronounced him dead at the scene, but were able to revive him. They aren't sure how long he went without oxygen. He now lies in a coma in the hospital, and they're not sure whether he'll live. Even though he and I divorced over 2 years ago, I have been emotionally distraught all day, and can only imagine how his family must feel. His parents have flown in from out of state, and his mother is devastated. I'd like to ask a favour of everyone on this board, if I may, to please pray for my ex and his family. For those of you that pray, please pray. For those of you who hope, please send all the hope you have this way, for it is in dire need and short supply. For those of you who do both, all the better. Thank you all so much in advance. I will try to stay updated on his condition. |

Thank you all SOOOOO much for your thoughts, prayers and well wishes. They have worked!!
I stopped by the hospital on Saturday with my family. I didn't see my ex, but my mother and sister did, and I got to speak for a long while with my former in-laws. My ex came out of his coma on Friday, and I strongly believe that not only will he survive, he'll be alright. :D He can move most everything and has been working with a physical therapist already. He seems pretty comprehensive, and is slowly regaining his senses. He has had a tracheotomy to help him breathe, so he cannot talk, though he wants to. He also is recovering from pneumonia. His doctors sometimes remove the tubes from his throat and allow him to breathe on his own so he can become used to it again over time. But this is very laborious for him to do still. He has had many visitors, which doctors say is good for his mind's recuperation. Though everyone is pretty careful not to stress him out too much. Basically, it's like being asleep or unconscious for a long time and kind of being woken up, but not really awake. Just very tired & groggy & out of it. Then nodding back off to sleep. That's kind of the state his mind is in right now, I guess. Anyway, he has surpassed everyone's expectations with his progress. Now we must all just wait & see what happens. He has a long, slow and painful road of rehabilitation ahead of him, so I ask that everyone please keep him in your hopes, prayers and thoughts so he may have a full recovery with time. Thank you, everyone, again and keep those prayers coming!! :) |

I'm so glad to hear that he appears to be on the road to recovery. I know it will be a long, hard road for him, but family and friends visiting him will help him find the strength and motivation he will need to continue his quest.
I will continue to keep him in my thoughts to give him the strength and courage necessary for his recovery. |

Hurray for him waking up and being able to move! I hope the pneumonia clears up quickly. I will keep hoping for a speedy recovery.

Thank you all still.
Things are still improving, though the progress slows, as it is inclined to do. It will continue to slow down naturally as time passes. My former husband is working with physical, occupational and speech therapists every day. They have removed the respirator, so he is breathing on his own now, and can talk and eat soft foods. His memory and skills are still returning. He has no short-term memory. He doesn't remember the accident or anything that happened until about a year and a half ago. But his nerves are slowly beginning to reconnect and awaken. He has been transferred to a rehab facility where he will stay for 2-3 weeks. After that, one of his parents will fly out to take him back to their home in Missouri (they have gone back). There he will stay until he is self-sufficient. His parents & I are still asking everyone we know to please continue to hope & pray for his complete recovery. We sincerely appreciate the good vibes that everyone has been sending...please don't stop just yet! |

Title: Re: Prayer Request Post by Angel Spun on Aug 13th, 2006 at 3:00am
Update: My former husband is out of the rehab facility and has gone back to Missouri to stay with his parents until he has recovered completely.
For those of you who are still with us, praying for him and sending hope, thank you so much. I myself am a firm believer in the power of prayer (moreso now than ever before). I have seen miracles happen when people get together and pray for the common good. So thank you again and please continue. If there's one thing the world needs more of, it's positive energy. :) |
