Title: that nasty crunch
Post by Marina on Jul 11th, 2006 at 6:56pm
Has anyone found a great way to get rid of the crunchiness at the end of long hair?  I trim the split ends and soften them with shea butter but I can't seem to rid my hair of the dreaded cruch!  Maybe it's time for a salon trim (even though I cringe at this thought)?  Thanks!

I've found that crunchy ends usually mean there is some sort of product build up.  Too much protein or -cones on the hair can cause this.

You can try using a clarifying shampoo or sometimes, a strong vinegar rinse is enough to clear the product from the hair.

Good luck!

I'm with BB on this one... I like to use a vinegar rinse to clarifying product buildup...

Check your ends.. if they are riddled with splits, then maybe it's time for a trim.  If not, you may be using a too-drying conditioner.. also, I've heard some people's hair react badly to oils... with the complaint that their hair felt "crunchy"... I don't use Shea butter on my hair, but.. maybe this is the source?

Sorry I can't help much.. just lots of hugs and long-haired well-wishes... hang in there, Marina!

Thank you both for your responses!  I'm going to try the vinegar rinse and we'll see how that goes.  I also trimmed about 1/2 an inch of hair off the bottom and even though there wasn't a split end issue, boy does it make a difference in the way my hair feels!
