Title: Hello need ur help Post by kesh on Sep 7th, 2006 at 2:29pm
Hi,
I am new to this forum.just stumbled on this forum during my research on adv n disadvtanges of long and short hair. hope to get some good advice from my new friends here who might have gone thru my phase. I m 27 , have long straight hair (a couple of inches above my waistline). my hair is jet black and have never colored it anytime in my life.most of the time i braid it. off late i observe that i have a lot of hairfall (atleast 200 strings of hair fall everyday) :( i was talking to one of my college friends and she was suggesting that i should go short with my hair (below the shoulders). that way my hair will get all essential nutrients required and can wash it 2-3 times a week and i care for it better. She went from knee length to shoulder length n now she plans to go shorter. i must admit that my hair looks little dull these days. nevertheless my hubby loves the long hair i have. when i discussed with him the idea of cutting my hair, at first he was a BIG NO- saying it will not suit me...in his mind short means a BOB cut. but he did give me his OK if it meant that having a short hair will be healthy and i can care for it better n not loose so much hair everyday. So basically he has left it on me to decide if i want to have a short hair or leave it as it is. friends, i need ur help to decide whether i should cut my hair and if so wht kind of styles should i consider.I have a round face and presently i am little over weight for my age and structure. i look forward to your valuable suggestions to help me decide the right thing. luv kesh |

NO please dont cut our hair. I wouldsujest using chemical free shampoos and rubbing in oil to your scalp over night this stopped about 60 percent of my hair shedding.
Give your har a trim and do some deep treatments also try shea butter. Having short hair is a lot harde to maintain and a lot less femini and sexy too. Cutting your har wont solve hair loss at all. You need totake hair supplements, eat well, be gentle, and maybe go chemical free its not your hair that is the problem as hair is dead its your scalp that has issues as thas whats alive. As i said before rub lots of oil and aloe on your scalp. Als eat well and sleep well. George Michael states that the longer your hair the less it shold sed as your scalp gets stronger and hair sheds less to get longer. Please remmeber that 5minutes is all it takes to cut but to grow can take years and years of patince. Be encouraged x :) |

Cutting your hair will not resolve the shedding. Your current shedding might be due to health, stress, diet, hormone change (such as just having had a baby), or just seasonal shedding.
Although 200 hairs shed a day sounds like a lot, it is not out of the normal range of 100 -300 a day. However, most long haired people shed much less than that. If this is a recent change, I'd suggest seeing a doctor. Significant hair loss is sometimes a symptom of thyroid problems. In the meantime, work on the quality of your hair. A clarifying shampoo and a vinegar rinse could remove product build up that is dulling your hair. Then concentrate on keeping your hair moisturized with conditioners and/or oils such as jojoba oil or coconut oil. Be sure to eat a balanced diet and add a good vitamin if you tend to not eat the best. Don't cut your hair without giving it lots of thought. I usually recommend waiting 2 weeks after deciding to cut your hair to actually have it cut. Then wait another 2 weeks. If at the end of 4 weeks you still want to cut, try cutting a few inches and see how you feel about it. As Rainbow stated, it takes little time to cut the hair, but years for it to grow back. |

Thanks Rainbow and Bikerbraid for your advice. I do use Herbal shampoo regualrly and a tea tree conditioner.
Regarding to ur advice to wait for a couple of weeks before i really decide and cut my hair....sounds like an excellent idea to me! Probably i feel that i can manage a shorter hair is just a decision taken in impulse. I am planning to change my shampoo and give it a try for another month or so...and then decide if i still find it unmanageable. My hair length is abt 18 inches from the back of my neck. how long is ur hair. Any tips to improve the quality of hair ? Thanks in advance for ur time and valuable advise |

Glad you are resisting the impulse urge to cut your hair and give it more thought.
Taking care of long hair so that it stays healthy and strong is important. Be sure to read the suggestions in the Guide to Growing Long Hair. There are also some great ideas in the Hair Care Recipe Cookbook area. Trying a new shampoo and/or conditioner might be the "boost" you need to liven up your hair. Don't be afraid to try new things! |

I am sure every woman on this board who has long hair will all of wanted to just give up and cut it at some point especially between shoulder and bsl. If they did they would never of known what powerfully beautiful hair they wuld of had.
The three things which work best for me and make my hair gleam is, 1. oil / shea butter 2. chemical free shampoos (aubrey organics) 3. Deep treats twice a week. I deep treat after every wash or an hour. my hair loves me now, but depending on your hair type other things may work for you. There are forums for each hair type so pick yours and ask the same question there for bettr advice. |

For me, washing with conditioner only has made drastic improvement in the quality of my hair. I trim about 1/4 inch every couple of months or so, just to keep my hemline straight. I also use oils and moisture treatments.
I promise you will regret cutting, I know from experience! Wait... |
