Title: How long does it take you to grow 6inches?
Post by Rainbow on Sep 14th, 2006 at 10:48am
Hi i am so excited my hair is growing about 7 1/2 inches a year. Just want to thank God he heard my hair growth prayers as it used to grow so slow.

Just thought it would be interesting to see how long t takes us all to grow the internatinal average of 6inches a year. I have heard the world record was 17inchs a year.

My hair growth is about 5.5 inches per year.  When I was younger (in my 20's) my hair grew much faster, I would get closer to 7 - 7.5" per year.

I have read that your hair grows the fastest for women between the ages of 16 - 25, then it starts to slow down and thin out.  My hair has followed this trend.

I probably would be slightly less than 6 inches.  my problem is the ends break off and my hair thins as it gets really long past my waist.

Hmmm.... I think about a year.  I have always has slow growing hair.  Once I when I was, Oh 10 years old, I had my tailbone length hair cut to a bob! :'(  It took years for it to grow back. :P

Wow... 7 ½ inches in one year is pretty amazing.

Mine is nowhere near that. In fact, this is the first year that I've ever really tracked it, so...we'll see.

I must say, I've actually never thought of saying a hair growth prayer. hehe I suppose a little divine intervention couldn't hurt!  ;)

Well, I just found a photo of me back in 2002, when I first started growing it out.  It was just past chin length.  So I think it has grown 18-20 inches in the past four years.  That would be about five inches per year.  Not bad for an old broad.... And they say old women can't/shouldn't have long hair!

I think my hair grows about 6 inches per year, however, the actual growth is much less because of the trims. I think that to get 6 inches actual growth would take me about 1½ years.

Ages. At least a year, and wasn't much faster when I was younger. In fact, it grows so slowly that I sometimes think it grows in the day and shrinks at night >:(.

Yeah. Hair is not a machine. It can have rest periods that last for months, and besides, the average being 6 inches/year means that there are a LOT of people whose hair grows slower than that.
Since what we can do to aid the growth of our hair is limited, it's just important to remember that growing is not a race against anything. Those with slower growth will get there too, it just takes longer. :)

I think mine grows at least average speed, maybe a bit faster, but I am worried a bit that it will slow down as I get older.  I'm in my 40s now.  We'll see.  I may actually formally track the growth after this last trim.

Hey, good idea...
