The other day, one of my wife's work colleagues told her that she had seen how long my hair was getting and that she thought it was high time I had a good haircut.  She then asked my wife if she liked my hair long. When she said that she did, this other woman seemed most surprised.  

Don't some people have a nerve!

Too many people speak without thinking....hopefully your wife's colleague won't make that mistake again.
