Title: Baby shower favors Post by maggie on Oct 3rd, 2006 at 4:51pm
Just wondering if any of you gals...or guys...might have at one point in your life been put in charge of baby shower favors? My SIL is having her shower at the end of the month, there are 70 people invited, so I'm guessing that about 50 will actually go, so cost effectiveness is a must! I would like to something cool and different, not the usual mints in netting idea. She doesn't want the traditional pink or blue color theme, she is more into neutral pastels, like sage, beige, buttercream, that sort of thing.
I was thinking on the lines of a votive candle/holder done in cello, or yes...netting, maybe even printing personalized little lables to put on the wrapping. Just want to see if anyone else might have some different or creative thoughts on this. Thanks! :D |

Maggie, I'm sorry I'm so overwhelmed getting my Halloween party in order that at the moment I can't come up with a single creative idea.
I'll keep thinking about it, though. I do like the votive idea-I like stuff that's practical and beautiful!! OK, now that I said that an idea is coming. How about making an herb "nosegay" to put in the top of the holder, over the candle (using tea lights would give more room) and tie it all up with your cello or tulle? Then you'd have sage(color) and sage(herb) adding color and fragrance. We all know how powerful smell is, and Thanksgiving is next month! I just thought about the herbs-I'm not sure if sage is a good thinkg around pregnant women but I do know spearmint is. If you have an asian gerocery store near you you will find herbs much cheaper there than at the "regular" gerocery store. |

I like the candle idea too! Try dollar stores for great bargins. Mind you, we never had party favors at a baby shower before but I like the idea. And perhaps if people bring there children who are 2 and up you can give them a little treat bag too. :)

Most of the baby showers I have been do don't really have favors. There are prizes for the games, but they are usually small baby gifts that go to the expectant mother, no matter who wins. I recently attended a shower for a niece and there was an amazing "cake" made up of layers of baby things (diapers, towels, onesies) and topped with diaper pins, binkies, socks.. It was really cute.
Also a magazine recently showed a handful of flowers made with layette items. Onesies, bibs, socks were folded and wrapped tightly then tied to stems of artificial flowers. A few more artificial flowers were placed in the bouquet, which was wrapped in pretty paper and tied with a ribbon. Well, these are ideas for decorations, more than favors, but I thought you might be interested. |

Thanks! They're some cool and interesting ideas, I like the herb idea but unfortunately there are no asian stores or any other kind I can think of that would carry what I need. :-/
I saw an idea to make "bun in the oven" muffin mix gifts, they were pretty neat, but that might be more than what I was thinking. I'll have to make up my mind pretty soon, gawd I'm bad at making decisions! |
