Title: Black Friday Post by bikerbraid on Nov 21st, 2006 at 7:28am
Who is going to take on Black Friday? (The retailers' name for the Friday after Thanksgiving.... the day that many finally get into the black financially.) Do any of you go out for the early specials? What kinds of specials will get you out at 6 am?
I have to work on Friday, so I don't get to join the crowds that day, but I am curious what others like to do with that day. I am one that will get up early and stand in line for something special that I want. Last week I stood in line, outdoors in 15 F temps for 2 hours to buy a limited edition CD. A local radio station produces an accoustic CD each year as a charity fund raiser. The songs and artists are currently popular, but the tapings were done in the radio station's studio for live broadcast, so the pieces are not overly produced - just simple renditions of their hit songs. This was the 18th year of the CD and I have all 18. The CD's have become so popular they sell out within an hour of the stores' opening, so being there early is critical to purchasing one. |

The university where I work is closed on Friday but I will NOT venture into town. On that day I avoid shopping altogether, unless it's an emergency! :P

I usually am camping on that day. This year, since my hubby just got out of the hospital, I'll be home with him. He said we could go out in the RV, but I don't want any more surprise ambulance rides. He needs to take it easy for a while.

Same here. I stay home all day but at night I'll go out since the crowds have died down. I also have to bowl.
Been on the other end of this, too, as a salesman selling electronices in the 70's. Yes, it was $$$$$ in commissions and usually a 14 hr. day. |

Wow, Bikerbraid, I think having all 18 of those CDs says you are pretty tenacious, but, then, we actually already knew that about you because you are a longhair. ;D
I am planning to be home working all day. |

I was amazed as I drove in to work Friday, at the number of cars on the road at 5:15am. Usually there is just a steady stream of of early birds, but yesterday there were at least twice as many cars on the highway! I work in a 6 story building that has 2 parking lots that are usually 3/4 full on a typical work day. Friday we had 6 :o cars in the parking lot, 5 of which belonged to my office. At least this year the building management didn't turn the heat off on us like they have in previous years. ::) Our receptionist (the ultimate bargin shopper), hit 3 stores before coming into work at 8. She then had to drink many cups of black coffee to stay awake the rest of the day! ;D
It is now Saturday and hubby and I are about to head out to the Mall of America for our work-out walk. It will be fun to see all the crazy shoppers come in as we are leaving! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and remembered at least one thing to be thankful for. |

On Black Friday I got up and went for my walk. Then came home and started washing clothes. Made breakfast, then pulled out the Christmas tree and ornaments. At 11:00 am the Texas/Texas A&M game started. So I decorated my tree while I watched my Aggies beat those old Longhorn teasips! Whoop!!! What a great day!

We passed on the 12am - 5am store openings. No way! We did venture out around noon. It was really crowded everywhere we went, but nothing like the pushing and shoving they showed on TV.
Today is supposedly Cyber Monday. I haven't checked the online sales prices yet. |

LOL! I just finished my online shopping! I guess I'm just adding to the cyber Monday theory. :D

Today, I saw a cute sweater coat online. It was on clearance for only 15.00 so I couldn't pass it up. I guess that was my minor contribution to cyber Monday. I try to stay out of malls whenever possible, I prefer the convenience of online shopping.
