Title: henna and indigo Post by Debr on Nov 29th, 2006 at 5:11pm
I was just wondering what is indigo? I know about henna. I have used it in the past to color or condition my hair. Never heard of indigo. What is the process to use it?

I use henna and indgo together to cover my grey and it leaves my hair a dark brown. If you use indigo by itself it will leave your hair black. You can go onto the Mehandi.com website and get a host of info there. Depending of what color your hair is and how much henna and indigo you use you either would wind up with very dark hair or black. It is always important you do a harvest test sample first though so you will not have any surprises after you do the treatment. I will not go back to color processing ever again after using henna and indigo. Check out the site and let us know what you think. Any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask! :)

Thank you curlgirl ;D With my red/gold hair color I certainly don't want to use indigo. Being a member of longlocks, I just might learn some new things.

Henna may be the way to go then. I henna'ed my hair for the first time a couple of months ago, and it was great. You can see before/after shots on my Hair Journal in the forums here. - berkanna |

I remember reading up on the henna site a long time ago, thanks for reminding me about it. Quick question: I seem to remember something about a "clear" henna for those who just want the conditioning, but not necessarily the color (I've never colored my hair, and am now officially scared to do so because I finally got it classic length, but am tempted sometimes) I'd love to try something new with my hair, but am afraid of "permanent" colors. Am I remembering this right, does such a thing exist, or am I making it up?

Clear henna treatments do exist.

I'm pretty sure "clear" henna refers to cassia obovata. It has some yellow dye molecules, but it seems like any color deposit wouldn't be noticeable unless one's hair was really light in color. You can check out this link http://www.mehandi.com/shop/cassiaobovatabuy.html for a bit more info.
