Yes and it is pretty scary! When you go to the main website you get a screen with a weird design that says it was hacked by soandso.   I got the email which said how to get in from the "backdoor" but it didn't work either.

You can still get to the forums - you just have to skip the main page.  Did you try going to http://forums.longhaircommunity.com ?

If that does not work, let me know, I have another "trick" up my sleeve.

Yes, it says page not found when I try that backdoor to the forums.  You have a suggestion Bikerbraid?

LHC's sister site the Beauty Bottle is also down.  Who the freaking hell are these jerks who hacked them? And what is the POINT? grr.  I'm so glad this place is safe  [smiley=bath.gif]

Unfortunately, hackers like to do things just for the sake of doing it.  Protecting a site from hackers is not easy - even big corporations find themselves hacked at times.  LL has been lucky to have had only a few annoying spammers from time to time.

No, I don't visit that particular site but went there to see if I recognized any names.... Such a waste of time and talent.   :-/

When my Best Friends novel lived at T35-com, it was hacked all the time. They even changed my password so I couldn't fix it. I finally gave up and moved it to a different server. Maybe it was Nancy.  8-)

Actually  this exploit is very easy, . I have no hard feelings towards LHC so I won't tell anyone how to do it, but hackers know all kinds of backdoors.

These hackers probally didn't have a lot of skill either, most websites can be hacked by any newbie to hacking.

Yep, it is not difficult, especially if you have a DNS server for the re-direction.  But it is usually short-lived, once the owner recognizes what has happened and they can re-populate the IP address thru the system again.

There are two kinds of hackers hackers who are in it for the mayhem or greed, they are really no different than your average street punk who gets a kick out of vandalising other people's property.

Then you got hackers who seek to bypass the limitations of various products like ipods and computers and are in it for the learning. These guys usually have anarchist leanings, as they don't like the limitations society puts on us.

These two groups of hackers don't really hang out with each other or get along, as they are motivated by different things.

The last group of hackers is where the intellegince lies. Malicious hackers rarely write the programs they use and lack the genius of a real hacker.

You are correct.

If I was 21 or so, or even a teen right now, I would probably part of the second group. For a few years, I had free internet, (albeit slow dial up) during the late 90's. I always push the limits on older equipment mainly because I can't afford new...

But I think the hack on that particular site was one of the first group, possibly someone who has something against it.

YEa I have free internet too. But its cable, but I have to use wi fi. Sometimes it doesn't work. I live in a house where there are 5 tenants but each tenant has their own room.

Don't have to pay the high cost of an apartment in this city.

I think LHC was hacked because it was an easy target. IT was American, they hacked it to prove their rep in the hacker world, but just makes them look like idiots.;-
