Title: Scalp Washing

Does anyone here do scalp washing to preserve the ends?  If so, what is your method?  Thank you. :)

Mostly I only use schampoo (nettles) near the scalp (the rest of the hair gets cleaner this way but the ends donīt get dry). In winter I put a lot(!) of coconutoil in the scalp and in the hair (I start on the third day after washing it and leave it over night) so it needs to be washed all over..

My very own recepie for quick shine and moisture is: put lots of Nivea bodylotion with almond oil in your scalp and hair some minute before washing it. I find it to be a miracle cure!!!!I also wear the lotion on my face and body.Love it!!!

I've been washing my scalp with conditioner only and am having excellent results on my length.  My scalp is still sometimes itchy-I think I need to go back to oiling before bed.  I wet my hair completely without touching it.  Then I take a teaspoon of conditioner and cleanse from the front at the top to the crown.  Then I take another teaspoon and cleanse the sides from the front to just behind my ears.  Lastly I take another teaspoon and go down the scalp from the crown to the nape.
After I rinse it out (not touching my hair) I put conditioner on my canopy, underneath the length and a little on the sides, using my fingers to comb it through.  Then I rinse it out for about 30 seconds (or less) and I'm done.

Sometimes I just scrub my scalp with the water (same pattern: top, sides, back) and then condition as mentioned.

Once a week I mix a tablespoon of brown sugar with 2-3 tablespoons conditioner and exfoliate using the same pattern as above.

I scalp wash 1-2 times a week as I hate having a greasy scalp but washing all my hair is such a hassle. I normally do it before my hair is crazy greasy cos my method doesn't really clean the nape area much.

Method:
Comb out hair
Put into high but loose ponytail
Tightly braid ponytail - tie off very close to the ends
Put braid into a bun - I secure this with a hair elastic
Cover with a small plastic bag - secure with a scrunchie

Shower as normal but only shampoo the scalp.  Sometimes I like to hold the plastic-bagged bun more upright so water doesnt run in.  My braid doesn't always come out dry but its never sopping wet  :)

Hope thats helped!

Thanks everyone!  I think I will try your method, Flaming Bunny.  The length just doesn't need the every other day washing that the scalp needs.

I'm a scalp-washer too.  I've taken this method on becasue I wash every single day, so I find that just concentrating the shampoo on the scalp when washing as opposed to lathering up all of the hair really makes a difference.  Sometimes I'll take an extra step in trying to protect my fragile ends from the shampoo suds.  I'll coat the hair from the ears down with conditioner, heavily, before doing the scalp wash and then rinse & condition the same area again.  The suds help to wash the conditioner away, and by the time all that's rinsed out, so is the shampoo.  It's a help for me.

I'm reviving this thread.  I've been scalp washing since I was 12 and I wouldn't even know what to do if I were to actually wash the lengths of my hair.  My hair's in good condition and it's shiny.  I condition from a few inches away from my scalp and through the lengths though.  Should I be washing my hair lengths as well?

Btw.  my hairdresser does this thing where she sort of pulls the conditioner down through the lengths (or what's left of them anyway) is there any benefit to doing it this way as opposed to just smoothing the conditioner over my hair?
