Title: A bit of history....
Post by Arcadian on Mar 4th, 2007 at 8:40am
Came across this big website full of info. which I'd never seen before, in particular this page about the start of the Bob in the 1920s.

Quote:
As the younger generation eagerly embraced this latest fad, women of all ages would soon find themselves having to face a critical decision – to bob, or not to bob.  Many were fearful of taking the plunge only to discover that long hair would quickly be back in vogue.  In fact, professional hair publications predicted an immediate return to long hair.  However, it was difficult to ignore the continued popularity of the bob.

Pity the magazines of the day weren't right ! And I wonder how many resisted being swept up by it all ?

But you've gotta to check out the "Facts & Humor" page..

Here's a quick sample .... !!!!!

Quote:

SHE WAS SO BLONDE THAT...

She sent me a fax with a stamp on it.

She thought a quarterback was a refund.

She tripped over the cordless phone.

At the bottom of the application where it says "sign here," she put Sagittarius.

If she spoke her mind, she'd be speechless.

When she heard that 90% of all crimes were committed around the home, she moved.

It took her months to figure out she could use her AM radio at night.

She was staring at the frozen orange juice because it said "concentrate"

That is a great bit of hair history.  I like the memorabilia - I wish I could still find these:

At the bottom of the page is something very similar to the ones you pictured. :)

Hi Arcadian!  I just have to say that I love this site.  It is so interesting and I am having a lot of fun exploring.  I love all the pics of the various hairstyles.   Some of them are soooo pretty.   I loved the music that played while I read about the 20's.  Thanks again for sharing your find!!! :)

Thanks for sharing that, A!!  I didn't know Irene Castle was a real person-I saw a movie about the Castles with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.  It was a good movie-has a sad ending...

Oh Ginger !!  :-* :-* :-* :-*  !!

I remember one of her films that just left me sooo woozy afterwards she was so beautiful !!

I think she must have been in her late twenties or early thirties in this particular film with Astaire (was he American or English ?), but it was when her hair was probably at its longest, I'm not sure ? But the memory I shall always carry is when she had it piled up in a round quite flat blonde spiral on the forward part of her head that really left me ga ga !!!!  ::)  ::)

And always will !  :-* :-*

Surely there must be some pics of her hair at its longest somewhere ? :-?

Good isn't it ! Bit embarrassing though as until you mentioned the word music, suddenly realised not only have I never listened to a website, I've just spent a good hour trying to find my speakers !  :-[

One heckuva difference !! ....  ::)
