Title: G'Day From Aussie
Post by Kazann on Mar 25th, 2007 at 7:34am
Hey There  :)

I am saying "G'day" and introducing myself, as I have just joined the group.

I live in Brisbane, Australia (Queensland) with my husband (Kev) and seven kids.
We live on an acre, in beautiful valley called Samford.
We have also got 13 chooks, a Border Collie (Sunny), two cats (Vinnie & Sheba), a parrot (Lilo), and our pet Carpet Python (Patch).

I have been growing my hair for about 3 years, and it is exactly 31inches long from forehead to ends. My hair has always grown quite fast, especially when I have a baby....and I've had a few now  ;) It is an auburn colour and has a mild to medium curl.

Living here in Queensland, I find I need to mostly tie it up in summer, and look forward to the cooler months when I can let it down!

Anyway, I am looking forward to learning more about how to care for my hair, and getting to know you all  :)

See ya around  8-)

Kazann

Thanks Sakina and Curlgirl64  :)

I have to laugh, I didn't realize that the rest of the world didn't use the word "chooks" !  ;D I honestly didn't!

Chooks, are chickens, we have 13 of them and a very handsome rooster who takes good care of them. We get Dingoes, and wild dogs around here, as well as some nice big pythons who would have them for dinner! "Rocket" our rooster is pretty big, and there ain't many who would take him on!  ;D

At the moment, I am oiling my hair once a week with an Indian hair oil called Amla oil.
I use a shampoo (as much as I hate them!) which is also an Indian product called Nyle. It is a black colour, very thick, and rich so I only need a very small amount, even for my thick, long hair. It does not seem to have the drying out effect that other detergent-based shampoos have on my hair.
Then I use a simple conditioner (lots of it) from the Health food store, as I am more akin to natural products.

I am however, always on the hunt for the elusive "perfect" hair products for my hair!  ::)
Any tips would be great!

Kazann

Hi Kazann,
Have you thought about using shampoo bars? They can also be used for shaving and all around cleansing bar.  There are many out there, but alot of us here on LL use Chagrin Valley.  I've used Prairieland Herbs shampoo bars and love them also.  You can get away with not using a conditioner also since the bars usually have alot of different oils in them.  THey clean without stripping your hair and do not weigh your hair down.  I don't know if Ida at Chagrin Valley ships to your part,I think she might though :-/  I haven't bought shampoo in a bottle since I started using shampoo bars.  You might want to check out various sites.  Since natural is also your choice(mine, too :) Ojon has excellent products.

Hi Kazann and a big long haired welcome  :)

Never heard of a carpet python before (are they smaller for some sort of indoor use ?), but interesting as I thought pythons were only found in S. America ? Aren't they the ones that can eat a small pig whole, or am I thinking of anacondas ? And I wonder where the word Chook came from too ? Corruption of chick perhaps ?  ;)

Ever thought of training Patch to help out Rocket ? ....  :D

G'day, Kazann and welcome aboard.  :)

It sounds like you've got a pretty good routine already. Your hair sounds pretty and well kept. Best of luck getting all the length and health that a long-locked lass could ask for.

Well Arcadian  :) I could train Patch to help rocket with the hens, but there will come a day where Patch would rather eat them! LOL!

An Anaconda is an extremely gigantic python!
The Carpet Pythons we get here in Australia grow to be about 3 metres long, and easily eat possums and other mammals.
Patch is just a hatchling, so he is only about 40cm long, and about 12 weeks old.

Australia is full of many different kinds of snakes, and has the world's largest concentration of some of the world's deadliest snakes!  :o
Pythons are not poisonous, as they are constrictors...loke anacondas and boas.

Anyway, enough about snakes, and onto hair!

Kazann  :)

G'day mate! Howdy! [/end accent]
woohoooo an Aussie!!!  ;D ;D
Welcome aboard kazann
I love aussies, if you haven't realised that already, especially banana benders!  :) And you from Brissie no less!

Onto hair now. A few years back, when I joined here, I, too, was using Indian Amla hair oil. I used the jasmine-perfumed variety, most of the time, because I adored the lingering smell of jasmine in my hair. But my brother used to shout at me that it smelled of petrol. Unfortunately it did contain petroleum so I stopped using it. Although I do know that vaseline that is often used on babies too, is almost pure petrol oil.
Have you tried jojoba oil?

Ahhh, what wouldn't I give to be in brissie right now, having an ice-cream at Southbank, or up at Mount Coot-tha (sp?) ::) ::)
Ok, I'm stopping my rumbling now.
Cya around the boards

LOL! "G'day" G-l  :)

Thanks for your enthusiastic welcome! Yes, Australia is an awesome country :-*

If you are ever back over this way, be sure and look me up! We live at the foot of Mount Glorious (and yes...it most certainly lives up to it's name.) We are only 30minutes from Brisbane city. We take the kids to Southbank regularly, and my hubby works there.

I must try the Jojoba oil in my hair, but I did not know about the petroleum in the Amla iol!  :o I will suss it out.

Off now to teach my children....we homeschool, so I must run a tight ship 'round here!

I'll match your G'day with a hearty upper mid-west HOWDY!  Glad to make your acquaintance and hope to get to know you even better.  I'm almost afraid to admit I knew what chooks were.  :o  I'm not a country girl, but I guess I've spent enough time around the farms to learn a term or two.  :D

Hello and welcome!  :)

I don't live on a proper farm (as our animals consist just of our pet rabbit and the wild animals who wander into our garden), but I live in a small village, learning how to live simply and manage a big garden.

About Chagrin Valley shampoo bars- I live in Finland, and Ida ships here wonderfully quickly, so I think that she will ship to Australia as well.
