Title: One side fatter than the other Post by Trisha on Jun 27th, 2007 at 12:42pm
Sorry about the stupid subject line, but I didn't know how to phrase it.
At night, when I do up my night braids, and I part my hair straight down the middle, the right side of my hair makes a fatter plait than the left side. Now, it's not noticeable to the naked eye (well, except mine), but I can definitely feel a difference. So, has anyone else noticed that one side of your head has more hair than the other? Is this normal or am I the oddball (again)? I wonder why this happens? :-? |

Hi Trisha, Yes, my right side is thinner than my left. So, I just make a part on the left side of center, and it all balances out. I am trying to type without my glasses so please forgive the spelling errors.

Well,I've got my glasses on and I decided to do a single braid because I, too feel the difference in my plaits! The left side is thinner than the right side. I see it,maybe not others, but when you feel it, you are self consious about it. :(At least I know I am aware of it.

My left side not only has more hair (fatter), but also grows faster than the right side. :-/ My natural part, however is almost 1 inch to the left of center, so that tends to even out the thickness of my braids.

I have more hair on my left side. I just make minor adjustments to my do and it will look even.
One side of our bodies is longer, larger, stronger and more flexible than the other. This may be because we use our dominant side more than the other, allowing it to develop differently. However, I don't know why it happens on our heads, too. The circulatory system, perhaps? |

We aren't perfect Barbie dolls with perfectly symmetrical scalps and even, perfectly-spaced hair follicles, my lovelies. Everything that grows naturally is slightly asymmetrical. ;)

Thanx Angelspun, I just thought I was strange! Now I know I am normal :D.
