Title: Making your own carpet deodorizer Post by Curlgirl64 on Aug 10th, 2007 at 1:39pm
Anyone having a pet with carpet in your house just knows there is going to be an "accident" sooner or later. I decided to make my own carpet freshner to get rid of the stink that just wouldn't go away with water and vinegar or Nature's Miracle.
I took a ziplock plastic bag and put about 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of washing soda in it. I then took Peppermint e/o(you can use orange or Spearmint or whatever,Lavender is cool to work with, too) Put about 10-15 drops in the bag, seal it up and mix the e/o with the soda to get the lumps out. Sprinkle this on your carpet and leave it there for a while,15 minutes to an hour. Vacuum up and smell the freshness!!!! 8-) :) |

Thanks! I'll give it a try...small apartment with a dog and a cat. They've definately made the place "their own".
Is washing soda the same as baking soda? |

I'm in a small apartment two family house so I can relate to the smallness!! It has the same components in it,but baking soda is processed alittle differently than washing soda. I'd use the washing soda just because the research I read said it was a great odor killer! My bichon goes on command and I don't have a problem with her or accidents. She goes in a Purina Second Nature litterpan for dogs. The BIG problem is my brother's boxer puppy (who will be huge when he's full grown)I think males are harder to train than females though, just my past experiences and what I've read. Let me know how you like the recipe!
