Title: Out and about with long hair Post by Debr on Sep 17th, 2007 at 8:58pm
I went out to dinner friday nite with my mom. While we were waiting in line, this guy leans over and says to me, "pretty soon you'll have hair as long as your gown". The dress I was wearing is down to my ankles. I just laughed ;D. Then on saturday I stopped at a convience store and the attendant said (very loudly), "how do you brush all that hair? It is longer than your arms!". I just kinda looked at him ::). smiled, and walked out the door. How else would I brush it but with a brush. The first guy made his comment in a way that didnt bug me. Maybe it was the soft quiet way he said it. The second guy just yelled it out, and I felt like I was on display.

Me too, but I think I would have looked a little freaked out by the second comment.

Debr;
Your "response" to the convenience store guy was perfect. Say nothing, and just walk out. Maybe he will figure out what he did wrong (probably not!). The first guy was "original", flattering, gentle and kind. Those are the kind of compliments we can take all day long. Congrats on getting yours! :) |

My hair is BSL, and I have never worn it down until yesterday. My students loved it, and some of them, 6th graders mind you, could not keep their hands off it. I'm supposed to stand in the door and greet them, and some stood behind me and petted it.
One comment was, "Miss, your hair LONG!" (I work at an inner city school.) I cannot imagine what they would have said, and done, had it been the length of yours. Glory in it, and ignore the jerky people. |

;D That would've been the perfect response. The second fellow might not have intented to come off as rude, but his comment was pretty ignorant. Nothing to get bent ouf of shape about, though. The first guy's comment wasn't actually a compliment - just a remark. Whether positive or negative, it was just an observation. Some people have tact, some don't. Variety is the spice of life, right? ::) |

i had a similar experience when i was younger. my hair wasnt as long but its thick and people would always ask how i managed to brush my hair. i kind of looked at them funny and said well yes its thick but i can still brish it. and they were always amazed to discover that when you touch it.. it was SOFT! how dare my thick hair be soft lol. when people feel the need the ask silly questions i just reply with the question back to them. and they usually realize how silly it was and appologize.
