Title: cleaning with steam cleaners Post by joeydog 1992 on Oct 15th, 2007 at 6:13pm
Hey folks,
You know, we live in a world where we work 60-80 hours a week, we are supposed to work out 5-7 hours a week (I wont even get into what parents are supposed to do) and we are supposed to run a perfect house (apartment)!!! I dunno about you all, but I get pooped!!!! I am a fanatic about my house. If I get up and it isn't 'perfectly' clean...I feel pressured to get it so and bad that I am not keeping up. Now, on Tuesday night I spent 2 hours washing my floors. I have the two bathrooms, kitchen, hall (vinyl) and dining room floor to do (living room). I do all on my hands and knees and the four vinyl floors with a scrup brush because it has lots of ridges in it and that tells my a mop would just push the dirty water into those. Now the wood floor I just rinse with clean, cool water, but the others I use harsh cleaners because I only have time to do them once a month or so. Fast forward to Saturday morning. I woke up at 5:30 am and could not sleep so I decided to flip on the TV and drink coffee until I had to go do groceries at 7:30 (cook up day, cook about 60-100 meals on those days so I have more time on weekday evenings). Everything was pay shows (you know, telemarketing type stuff). Anyway, I say this product called the H20 mop which is a steam mop (no detergents) and a microfiber cloth. I have been thinking about the concept (not necessarily this particular product). I clean a couple of rooms a night and using this thing, I could do my floors every week which would make me feel great!!! I am not sure about the heat from it on the wood floor and I am sure it would do little good on my carpets...but the other 4 floors...yippee if it would work!!! So my question is, does anyone use a product like this and can you tell me if they are any good? should I avoid certain products? etc... Also, I know that there are hand held one's for cleaning counters, showers, etc....anyone got an input on that? Thanx for your time. JC |

Weell, I'm sorry to say I never heard about the 5-7 hours a week cleaning rule. Truth be told, I hardly ever clean. Unfortunately, as a kid, cleaning the house was a very stressful, unpleasant and scarry time for me so I tend to avoid it. I may now reconsider if I look at it as 5-7 hours in a week. Thanks for sharing that.
After reading the above you will conclude that I have nothing helpful to contribute regarding your question. Good Luck! |

Sakina,
I am glad you wrote even though you had no input. I don't think I said clean 5-7 hours a week, I think I said work out. Could be I was not paying attention though. ANYWAY, I am glad you wrote...now I have an opening to tell you how much I LOVE your new avitar. Your hair looks FANTASTIC. JD |

Aww, thanks! Your compliment has made my day!! I can hardly wait to see how it looks at BSL!!
Oops, you're right. I misread what you wrote. Guess its my guilty conscious about hating to clean. Its on my mind 'cause of the huge Halloween party this Saturday. Cleaning should take place on Friday since we're still decorating. |

Cleaning? You are supposed to clean the house? :o Don't the magic cleaning fairies do it? ::) I'm with you Sakina - cleaning is scarey - and to be avoided. Ok - I do clean the kitchen and bathrooms regularly, the rest I just keep picked up and clean when I'm expecting people. I'm glad my house is small - it takes little time to maintain it.

I've never heard of the mop but you've definitely piqued my interest. Every so often I steam my sofa. I'm not sure how well it "cleans" but the steam is so hot that I know that no bacteria could survive it, so it definitely disenfects.

LD,
I am investigating them. I think they SOUND great but for $99 ...I need more than an advert to sell me!! JD |

Okay, I just saw the advertisement for the first time and couldn't help but one. I'm such a sucker for infomercials. ::) Once I get it I'll let you know how it works, if of course you haven't made a decision or ordered one yourself already.

I finally tried it Joeydog and unfortunately, I'm not impressed. I have linoleum on my bathroom floor so I tried it out in there. It steamed up a great deal but I had a spot of something (not sure what) and a scuff on the floor that the steam mop just couldn't get out. I'm thinking that if you have a floor that normally needs scrubbed clean with a brush, that this isn't going to work as an alternative. I'll still have to scrub my floor to get up the scuff and whatever else.
It also states that it isn't for use on hardwood floors, I don't have them but I believe you do. I haven't tried it on my carpet yet. I didn't purchase the carpet solution and don't think it would be a fair test to try it on my carpeting until I do. If it works for tough carpet stains then for my purposes it's a keeper, but if it doesn't even work for that, I'll be returning it. I hope this helps you. If you have any questions please let me know. |

Just to let you know, today I tried it on 2 stains that I had on my carpet without using any cleaner. The stains came out without any problem. I'm actually not even sure how it was possible but it worked. I also like the fact that it dissinfects. Looks like I'm keeping it.:)

hmm, interesting. Thanx for the update LD, I will have to think on. That is wierd about the wood floors since the ad I saw said wood floors were ok!!! I had ads. They fudge the truth so much.
