Well, earlier I heard voodou shrieking like she'd been stabbed.. I went to find out what was wrong and saw chaos on my sewing table... the dang thing was sleeping on a partially finished skirt(I was bored and cut up a sarong, patternless guessing, but it's working so far(whew!))   anyway, she'd managed to stab her paw with my seam ripper(she hid the cap a while ago, otherwise it would have been protected!) for all you non sewers, this is a seam ripper. http://www.glfi.com/scSeamRipperLarge.jpg see that pointy bit on the end? it broke off as I was attempting to remove it from the freaking out cat. Got the pointy bit out, the cat is fine although limping, but my poor seam ripper is no more.

The frustrating bit? i'd put the skirt to the side for a bit, because I'd seriously screwwed up a button hole(drawstring hole, actually, but who's counting?)  which meant I had to pick out the hole using a pair of tweezers. Thank goddess for jewelry tweezers... they've got a fine enough point that I could get under the stitches.  

So now I've got new punctures(kitty was freaking, as I said. claws of doom,  :o), and a sore neck from both tension, and the position I had to be in to get the dang threads.  The good news, I guess, is that I know I can do that, now, if neccessary.

OUCH!  I feel for your kitty.  

I grew up sewing.  My mother sewed, my grandmother sewed, my older sister sewed.  We always had pins and needles around the house.  When I was 12, I somehow managed to jam a needle into the heel of my foot.  It was in so deep that we couldn't tell it was in there, except that I could not put any weight on my heel.  I had surgery to remove the needle, however they couldn't get it out, so I still have it in my foot.  They were able to turn the needle so that it wasn't sticking into the nerve and hurt everytime I walked.  I can't feel it anymore, but it "shows up" every now and then, like when I had my ankle and foot Xrayed and when I used to have MRI's for my back.

I hope you get the broken part out of your kitty's paw - I wouldn't want it to have that pain for long!

I pulled the metal bit out right after she broke it off, thankfully. Oddly, this being the demon cat that hates everybody, I woke up this morning and she was curled up against me. I think she realized I was helping her, and has some sort of gratefulness. Anyway, she's been nice all day.

My mom was taught to sew by her mom, as soon as she was old enough to be trusted around a sewing machine. She also learned to knit, crochet, embroider, ect.. all the classic female skills. She tried to teach me when I was little, too, but at the time I was a major tomboy and had no interest (stupid kid :( )  I started actually learning for real, about a month before I moved down to La ...  I made the skirt I wore on the flight... in a week. I finished it in the afternoon of the 4th... flew out on the 5th...  :o But I got it done, and it looks good. I'll take pictures of it, and the new one(I managed to finish without a seam ripper....  :o) after the new one dries (washed to get rid of sewing marks and loose threads, and give it a broomstick effect) ...

The good news is, I've been getting sewing advice over the phone from mom... What should be within my skill level, what might tax me a bit, and what fabrics she'd reccommend for what projects, ect...  It's almost as good as having her here to help me.

I miss my mom... and stepdad, really. he's also pretty darn good with a sewing machine, and ooh, the spaghetti sauce. LOL that's another topic though...

That's pretty cool! You know there is a forum for sewing people that make things out of other things. (like skirts from pants, gloves into hats, ect.) They call these items recons and the forum is at crafster.org.

Once in a while I lurk it but am not a member there. They also have an artist forum.
