Title: hair growing at different lengths
Post by brunette85 on Oct 21st, 2007 at 2:57pm
does anyone know why one side of you hair seems to always grow longer even if they are cut to be even. i have noticed this with my hair that my right side grows longer than my left. its not really a problem; i was just curious.

I don't know of any scientific reason for hair growing at different rates, but one theory might be if you sleep primarily on one side, it might retard the growth on that side.

My hair doesn't have that problem, so perhaps it's genetic?

I've noticed that I have that problem too.  The left side of my hair is growing longer than my right.  My mom told me that maybe it's because I pay more attention to the left more than I do the right.  She means as far as brushing the left more than the right.  It could be true.  I don't know.

yes i have this too, my theory is we have one side of our body which is the dominant side, normally if we are right handed this side dominates the left. for example im right handed and my right hand side anatomy is larger, hand, breast and foot, also my right hand side of my hair grows quicker. i cannot understand why this occurs, I suppose its just one of them things, my hair dresser when i used to go, used to accuse me of cutting my own hair and would say you have cut uneven, but id not touched it!

i cut it myself now though and still get more growth on my right!

its strange isnt it? i remember back in third grade art class, our teacher teaching us about symmetry. she said that no matter what, people are not symmetrical one side is larger than the other on everyone. i wonder if this could be the reason why one side can appear longer. whatever the reason, it still seems to creep up on me. i had a trim about a month ago and it was even then and i just noticed while my hair was down that my right side was longer by a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. so that supports your theory because i am also right handed! i'm glad to know i'm not the only one that this happens to. :)

Hmm. I've noticed that my right side is slightly longer than my left... and I'm a lefty! I also sleep mostly on my right side.

I've also noticed that most of my body is larger on the right side. Maybe I'm just defective.

You're not defective!  Unless I am, too.  I am also a lefty who is larger on my right, and sleeps on my right.  I just got my hair trimmed, so I'm not sure if my right side is longer.

Absolutley!

Everyone has a what is sometimes reffered to as a femine side and a masculent (sp*) side when it comes to hair. In a nutshell, one side of your head has more hair than the other. See how every woman always says they have one side that does what it wants and the other always looks great? That's why :)
