Title: hair design advice
Post by bio_muse on Nov 12th, 2007 at 7:48pm
Hi, everyone!

I wanted to ask all y'all's opinions regarding an idea I have for decorating my hair.  This is for a 5k walk that I will hopefully be doing in December.  I'm thinking of being a little silly and wrapping my braids with ribbon & putting jingle bells on for the event.  My question(s) is/are -- Should I just use jingle bells at the ends of the braids?  Or should I put jingle bells all the way down as I wrap the braids in ribbon?  (I'm planning on 2 French braids.)

What a darling idea!

I'm picturing red and green ribbons either braided into your braids, or wrapped around your braids, then tied in bows at the bottom and jingle bells (several on each ribbon) hanging on the ends.  I had a very bad experience once when I had a jingle bell necklace that decided to attack my hair, so I would not recommend having the bells in your braids.  Maybe a headband with bells on it??

You must take pictures of whatever you decide to do and share them here!

I totally agree w/Bikerbraid.  Also, you could leave the bells off the hair ribbons and make a matching ribbon bracelet and put the bells on there.  As long as you keep your hands out of your hair they shouldn't snag.  I'd be concerned that the bells would pull on the braids-I think it would give me a headache.

I want to see pictures, too!!!!!

Hooray for being silly!  I endorse it wholeheartedly!!

I third the suggestions of not putting bells on the ribbon as you braid. Eek, snags and tangles!

Pictures, please! :)

no advice, but it does sound cool... although the tinkling would drive me nuts within a few minutes... then again, I've got the patience of a small squirrel. an impatient squirrel.

Thanks for the advice!  I'll definitely post a picture of what I do with my 'do.  :)  The 5k is on Dec. 8, so it will be a little while yet.

Hi, everyone,

Well, the 5k was this morning, and it went very well.  I wound up dying my hair auburn for the event (using L'Oreal Color Pulse - Lively Auburn) because I thought it would be fun to have red hair with green ribbons.  I did a pair of Dutch braids and then wrapped the ribbon around them.  I made holes under the braid with my fingers to pass the ribbon through.  Once I got one strand of the ribbon through, it was easy to go through the same hole for the second strand.  I finished it off at the end of the braid with three little silver jingle bells on each side.  I didn't notice that the bells added any weight to my hair, but then I regularly wear a large silver hairtie and am used to having some weight at the end of my braid.  The bells made a very nice jingling sound that was just loud enough to hear, but not loud enough to drive me nuts over the course of the day.  Here's some photos...

The whole look:

That is seriously cool. I like the hair color too, you're right. the ribbons did go well with it.
