Title: protecting your hair in cold, windy weather
Post by faerhi on Dec 3rd, 2007 at 2:35am
hey everyone  :)

i just moved to chicago from los angeles.  i'm trying to figure out how to wear my hair so i can wear a hat.  i tried a low ponytail and the hat still fits funny.  i was thinking of using my pashmina wrapped around my head and neck - grace kelly style.  i've also thought of putting my hair in a snood, hat on top of my head.  that would protect it from the wind....think i might try that.

my hair is blue-black and falls to the middle of my tush.  cut bluntly with cleanly cut bangs.  i'm a natural dishwater blonde.  i have fine hair but lots of it.  when shorter, i have a nice wave...with it long i have a little bit of wavy at the nape of my neck.  i don't know the abbreviated descriptions yet.  can anyone tell me what my description would be?

thanks!

i'd love your input  :)

Hi nice to meet you!  I protect my hair of which is BSL (bra strap lenght) with various head coverings.  I live in Canada and it gets pretty dry and windy too. I wear a bun and put on a big Tuque: A Canadian cap made by tucking in one tapered end of a long cylindrical bag, closed at both ends.  Some days I wear a Hijab type style of scarf.  But I also remmber to oil my hair every night and do deep treatments as well!  HTH

thank you for the ideas!  i definitely need to oil the length of my hair more often - it's fine now - but i want to make sure it stays that way.   :)

hi and welcome! i see that you are from california. i was wondering if you could give me any information about the state mostly from san francisco down. when im done with school id like to move out there. the only problem is i dont know much about it. i have done a lot of research over the net but i think it would be better to have first hand knowlege.

as for keeping hair protected the thing to always remeber during this time is to never let your hair be free. as far as storms go and winds go. there are days when its not so bad and you can wear it out. but for the most part keeping it covered is the best thing i can think of to do. using head coverings works well for most on here. french braids or any type of braid that you like that keeps your hair from flying everywhere. some are partial to hats and just leaving the length onside of the coat works too. its all a matter of knowing what oyu like and what works for you. experiments are aour friends heres lol. so i hope this helps.

good luck! keep us posted :)

I made myself a hood type scarf to wear when it is cold and/or windy.  It contains my hair and keeps me warm!

I live in North West england and we hardly ever see the sun :( but in winter BRRRR really cold, i put coconut oil from my ears down and bun it, this way my hair is protected& it gets an all day oiling, I wear a beanie hat, which is like a floppy beret and this way my hair is contained and hid away nicely without looking like ive been hit on the back of my head with a mallet! or got an unusually large cyst growing from the back of my head!!!
