Title: My son is engaged. Post by rodent on Dec 4th, 2007 at 6:11pm
Yep, he popped the question to his gf Saturday. A summer/fall 2009 wedding is planned so they can graduate school and get decent jobs. :)

It sounds like you are happy for him 8-)
They have the good sense to wait over a year since you know how the saying goes 'good things come to those that wait'. I wish him and his wife to be lots of luck :) Jerry |

Congrats! Now the REAL fun begins! ;D Glad to hear they are getting the important things taken care of, like school. Are you brushing up on your dancing for the reception?

Hey, congrats Rodent! Is this the first time you will be a father in law? I am glad they are waiting a while to get some things in control (school, job) etc.

HaHA. I can't dance to save my life. :P Real fun? Better enlighten me. This is unchartered territory. :o The next step is empty nest. I'm ready for that phase. ;) Deb, yes, this is the first (and only) time to to have a DIL. He's an only child. (and grandchild, AND great-grandchild). She's the youngest of five. This will be interesting. They [experts] think first-borns snd onlys have better time with babies of their clan. :D I married another first-born and it has worked 25 years. ::) |

The wedding preparations can be a challenge. The bride's family needs to set the tone, but today thing don't always follow the the traditional rules, so BE PREPARED! My son's wedding definately did not follow traditional rules. There were times I played Mother of the Bride as well as Mother of the Groom, so it was interesting.
But the most important thing to remember - it is THEIR DAY! Let the kids decide how their special day will go. |

25 yrs ago when I got married it was pretty much a 'her' day. They have decided on the wedding party so far and a church. Beyond that, I haven't a clue. My family is real small and her side is pretty big, so I imagine it will be mostly her side running things. She also has two sisters that will probably give (unwanted?) advice. I'll input only when asked. So far, I've only been asked to be their landlord, something I promised Junior earlier so I know he has a decent place to live and won't get screwed by an unscupolous landlord. |
