As most of you know, I love music but not when it is so loud it almost makes a persons ears bleed :o

We have a couple of neighbors who like to play their music pretty loud and we live on a pretty busy street so almost every day there is a vehicle playing their music so loud it rattles our windows >:(

I just don't get why people like their music so loud :o

And, it is another reason I hate going to bars not to mention all the smoke :P

Being of the rock & roll persuasion, I stand by the old saying...if it's too loud, you're too old!  ::)

However, if you live in close quarters, such as an apartment complex, it helps to keep the volume at a level acceptable to those around you. You can always blast the speakers in your car!
   And on the flip side, if you live in such a place, you're just going to have to accept that loud music, however good or bad it may be, is just part of the experience.

When I lived in my very first apartment, there was a group of guys who would drive up into the parking lot just below my bedroom window and blast mariachi music from about 3 - 5 AM!! One of the people that lived above me actually screamed at them once because of it and they didn't see how they could possibly be doing anything wrong! Some people just have zero consideration for others and that's just how it is.

Being a musician's kid, I'm more than used to loud music...and bars...and smoke. Grew up with all of that. Although now, in the state of CA, it is illegal to smoke in bars.  8-)

Talk about zero consideration >:( yesterday at 7:30AM the tenants son blasted music so loud that even me banging on the wall did nothing.  I know when the next door neighbor (who owns the house)is away because the bass is so loud that my birds scream with aggravation!  Me being a pianist when I was young and growing up with Zeppelin,Kiss,Doors etc,I appreciate Rock,but not what ever this kid plays!!  Sounds like garbage!  Bleck!!!!!!! :P  Not even rock,some kind of noise not even worth calling music!

I'm another one that loves loud music, but at a limit. I'm a (decidedly) amature musician, and in my opinion, I need ALL my hearing to put together decent stuff. If my ear drums are damaged, how can I tell if my strings are going to be needing tuning soon? (I've noticed that I can hear tone changes before anyone else I know)   I don't want to risk damaging my ears with music that loud. Not to mention, I refuse to smoke A) because it's icky and smells bad, but also B) because everyone I've ever known who sang, who also smoked regularly lost their voice. The choir director at the church I sang at in VA once had a most powerful and moving voice (Way before my time, but I've heard recordings) , but as the emphysema set in... not so much anymore. However, I must admit I have a definate adoration for bass, although I agree that there's a difference between moderately loud music with bass boost so that you can almost feel it sitting 3 feet away from the subwoofer (but no farther), in your own house, and being able to hear the bass shaking the cars driving past 150 feet away.  at 3 AM. Slowly.

I've only been in two bars, one for a friend's band's show, and the other time for the seminar/tour thing earlier this year, but as far as I remember, nobody smoked. I'm not sure if it's state law or Bar Law, though.

I like loud music and play it myself sometimes, but only when alone. But if I hear loud rap, I WILL tell the perpetrator to shut it off. Not down, but OFF!

Yeah, pounding on the walls isn't going to do anything. He won't hear you. In said situation, there are 4 things that might work: 1.) Go over there and ask him to please turn his bloody music down, 2.) Inform the landlord/manager about this person's *ahem* behaviour... 3.) Blast music of your choice louder than the crap he's playing (but use caution as this can become a music blasting war), or 4.) Introduce him to "your little friend."  :o  ;D

lol!  All great suggestions!  I'd love to blast musci too(if only because it would be my choice to hear music I like!)but I've got the birds and dog and well you know.......their sensitivity issues!  Although I found out my oldest chirp likes Simon and Garfunkel and Metallica! ::)

Sir Rat,yes telling someone to turn it off rather than turn it down sounds like a perfect solution to that noise and my problem with him!

I have the same thng with the school I live arcoss the street from.  The kids blare there car radio's and the base could break windows!  I like loud music myself but not that crap!  The best thing to do is invest in hearing aids cause these kids will be deaf very soon.

too bad wisdom doesn't blaze through the music like the bass does!!

After living in apartments most of my adult life, I thought that moving into a house would eliminate the noisy neighbor problems but I've learned that, that isn't the case.

The guy on the left side of me plays a guitar (not very often though thank goodness) and when he does, we can hear it all through the house.  My husband trying to soften the blow, said that we should be happy that at least that the guy plays well, but I could care less about that.  It's not that I don't like music, I just don't want it forced on me when I'm not in the mood to hear it.

The guy on the right side of me has a son who likes to play basketball in the street and when I'm in my bedroom trying to relax, the last thing I want to hear is that ball loudly hitting the pavement. ::)

The other day my husband suggested that that perhaps on windy days that my wind chimes could be annoying to the neighbors, but I'm at the point where I don't care.  No one else around here (or anywhere else in my experience) seems to care wether their noise is affecting others, so why should I? >:(

Have you considered trying ear plugs when you are trying to relax?


Sometimes, I will stick my headphones on and listen to my own music loud enough that it keeps outside noises from bothering me ::)


One time I was riding my bicycle home from work and a guy was working on his car with the car stereo blaring rock music :o     A police officer drove up and made him turn it down 8-)

No, I've never thought about ear plugs but it is a good idea if they work.  I usually like to listen to soft music (at very low volume) while I relax, but I'd prefer silence to the basketball.  I'll try them, thanks for the suggestion. :)

I have tried them at concerts but I do not like them for that :P

Some people use them when they are shooting noisy guns but I have never tried them for that.

My husband snores loudly at times, but now that I've got my ear plugs I'm ready for anything. ;D
