Title: Computer (s) Post by Jerry on Feb 10th, 2008 at 1:47pm
I was just wondering what kind of computer or computers everybody uses on this board?
I bought a Hewlett-Packard Pavillion s3123w slimline with a DVD burner a few weeks ago. I also have a Dell Dimension 4550 which I bought from a co-worker about four years ago. I also have a Hewlett-Packard Pavillion 7940 which I bought from Staples about six or seven years ago :-/ I am not sure what I am going to do with it because I am going to use the Dell as a back up and also to make copies of music CD's. My very first computer was a Packard Bell which turned out to be a piece of junk :o Every time I tried to upgrade it nothing wanted to work with it so I just gave it away and bought another CPU. |

Gateway AMD Turion 64 notebook. 1 year old. 8-)
But most of the time, I visit LongLocks from the Dell desktop at work. I have no idea what model it is, but it's not more than a few years old. |

I used to surf the internet at work but now they have cracked down on it and I only read the local newspaper during my second break.

I've been using the same eMachines flat screen computer for about 4 years now. It was working great but now it has a virus (or at least I think it does, it's no longer acting up :-?) so I'll be getting a new one shortly. My husband works for IBM, so I'll most likely be getting one of those.
The computer I had before this one was a laptop, I think a Dell but I don't remember, it was through my husbands job. The very first computer I ever bought was a Gateway. That computer crashed and I lost everything on it, I was very devastated. |

Lets see... I've got a god knows what mix going here. I think it has an Azues Mother board, it has a DVD drive, a Zip drive, flatscreen... mostly LG parts. It runs windows 98. Then I have an IBM Think pad that runs wndows 95. A HP printer, scanner, photocopier thingy.

Yick. I can't stand newspapers. Only good things about 'em are classifieds, comics, Sunday coupons and sale ads...and free samples. ;D Most of my co-workers are aware that I surf the web and nobody cares. My position has a lot of down time which allows for it. 2 years ago, I read the entire Sherlock Holmes Canon and most of that was during slow periods at work. Besides, it's not like I'm doing anything inappropriate. If someone has a problem with it, they're welcome to tell me. But until that happens, I'll use the time as I wish. ;) |

I have 10 computers that all do different tasks. The fastest is a 3GHZ dell with 1G memory I scored for free that had bad capacitors on the main board.
A 1.7GHZ IBM runs server 2003 and my survailance system. A 333MHZ, PII runs my weather station which communicates to a simple 486 conected to weather monitoring equipment. I have a G4 Mac I haven't a clue as to how to use, a print server, A 1.4 GHZ AMD home boult running paint software, ect. You get the idea. And a partridge in a pear tree, Yep, a 233MHZ Pentium that runs the Christmas display. 2 Dell, 1 HP, 4 home brewed from parts, 1 Mac, 1 Gateway, 1 IBM server with SCSI disk array. This does not include my laptops. We can't surf for pleasure, either. Many sites are blocked and all activity is monitored. |

Showing my age here. My first experience with a computer was in 1974 with a 110 baud teletype. You dialed a number with a phone and listened for the tone. Then, you stuck it in rubber ears..
My first home computer was in 1981. It was a Timex Sinclair 1000, a Z80 CPU with 2K (not meg, but K) of memory. I later built an expansion board that upgraded to 16K and a serial port. I used it to run a model railroad. |

My first experience with computers was way back in high school about the year 1981.
If I remember right they were IBM's? There were no mice (Hm, when did the first mouse come out anyway?) so everything was done on the keyboard ::) Then, my second expereince with computers was the Apple which did have the mouse and I think it had the earliest version of their windows and the DOS program which was in the year 1985 or 1986. I bought my very own first computer back in about 1997 which as I have said before was a Packard-Bell (which turned out to be a Packard-Hell). It cost me about $1,700 which I bought at Montgomery Ward and I put it on my Montgomery Ward credit card :o The hard drive was a huge whopping 500 MB :o And now the new Hewlett-Packard is my/our 5th. computer so far.
