What songs do you hate or can't stand when you hear them on the radio?

Mine include:

Drops Of Jupiter:  Train
Hard To Handle:  The Black Crowes
Picture:  Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock
Mamma Said:  Metallica (they are my favorite of favorites but I can't stand this song :o It's like metallica trying to do country which to me is not right at all ::))
Cheesburger In Paradise:  Jimmy Buffet
Don't Laugh At Me:  Mark Wells

I like Hard to Handle! ;D

Okay, as I mentioned before, I hate My Humps and just about anything else from Fergie.

Just about all contemporary rap songs.

Everything from Gwen Stefani.

Maybe it would be simpler if I stated that I don't like most songs in the top 40. :P

Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks
I'm Not in Love by 10CC
Macarena by Los Del Rio
The Titanic song by Celine Dione (yep, waaaay overplayed)

Hmm...probably more of them, but none come to mind right now.   :-?

OMG, I could write a book on music that I hate.  ;D

One particular song, however, is Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the band. They wrote and recorded some good material. However, growing up in a small town tends to overexpose a person to southern rock - this band in particular - to the point where they become jaded to it.

Every time I hear this song, I want to throw objects and scream. I'm that sick of it. Really wouldn't mind if I never heard it again...but I always do. Doesn't help that my father's band covers it...and now it has become the theme for Kentucky Fried Chicken. I dare someone to explain that one...  :-?  ::)

I like Sweet Home Alabama!  It reminds me of Forrest Gump when Jenny came to visit and she taught him to dance. ;D

I thought of a few others that I hate;

Jennifer Lopez - Jenny From The Block *GAG* :P
Mariah Carey - Hero, Heartbreaker and just about all of the other songs from her most recent album
Several Beyonce songs, but the titles are escaping me at the moment

The absolute worst song in the world came out in the mid 70's.
"Play that Funky Music, White Boy".  ::)  My sister played it to death but once was enough for me.

It was a pre-runner to RAP and disco.. Well Rap isn't music so I guess I can't count it in 'songs you hate',  ;D cause they ain't songs.
oomp-pa oompp rahrah oomp.....  :P

Runners up, again mid 70's, some village people monstroseties; YMCA, In the Navy, and I know there's another but I can't place it.

I can now stomach the Villiage people stuff in my old age but I can't for the life of me ever sit in the same room with that funky white boy crap.

You forgot Macho Man which is their biggest hit ::)  I do like the Village People's music because it is catchy.  On the talent scale they were not the best but better than some :P

I do hate most rap mainly because rap pretty much killed heavy metal and pretty much all other music on the original MTV >:(  But there are a few I do like such as Eminem and his song Lose Yourself is my favorite.  I like more hip-hop than rap though.

Metal is alive and well if you know where to find it.

Ahem. Horrible covers also seem appropriate for the subject. And so...

Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit
My Generation - Hilary Duff
Bringin' On The Heartache - Mariah Carey
I Love Rock N' Roll - Britney Spears (or Britney covering anything for that matter)
American Pie - Madonna
Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Guns N' Roses
Land Of Confusion - Disturbed
When The Stars Go Blue - Tim McGraw
Tiny Dancer - Tim McGraw
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) - Marilyn Manson
Personal Jesus - Marilyn Manson
I Saw Him Standing There - Tiffany
Life Is A Highway - Rascal Flatts

Dreadful.  :P

What else renders a song totally unlistenable? How about when artists "sample" (or blatantly rip off) great songs and turn them into complete modern rubbish? A few that I can't stand...

Sing For The Moment by Eminem (samples Aerosmith's Dream On)
S.O.S. (Rescue Me) by Rihanna (samples Soft Cell's Tainted Love)
I'll Be Missing You by P. Diddy (samples The Police's Every Breath You Take)
Ready Or Not by the Fugees (samples Enya's Boadicea)
Someone To Call My Lover by Janet Jackson (samples America's Ventura Highway)

YEP! That's it! I could place it but couldn't quite grasp it.

What Angelspun writes about sampling: RAP does this all the time. I can't believe they get away with this and Goerge Harrison got hammered for something only vaguely similar with the 'My Sweert Lord' thing.

I should have said rap pretty much killed heavy metal on MTV because Headbangers Ball dissapeared and every time I would go to MTV in the late 90's it was nothing but rap music and tv reality stuff :o

And now, MTV2 does play heavy metal but it seems like VH1 or one of the other VH1 channels play more heavy metal than MTV2 ::)

But, I am glad I do not have to rely on only those two sources for the heavy metal I like the most.

I thought of a few more but I don't really hate them but I can say I don't like them :P

Crash by  Dave Matthews Band.  I listened to a whole CD of them and I was not very impressed.  I am sure people who like them will think I'm nuts but I just can't get into their music ::)

Piece Of My Heart by Janis Joplin.  To be honest, I don't like her singing.  She was a huge star in her day before her death but to this day I just don't like her music.

I am a fan of Janis. She may not have been the greatest talent, but she put 110% of what she had in every piece. She even played Woodstock.

A better rendition of her voice would be 'Ball & Chain" where she stayed more in her range and didn't try so hard.

For some reason finding songs that I hate has proven more difficult than I thought it would be. :-?  Songs that I like are coming much easier.  For instance, right now my favorite song is Feedback from Janet Jackson, but I can't think of one that I really hate right now.

Rodent, you know my opinion about musical talent from The Long Hair Lair so I hope you don't think I am saying that Janis Joplin did not have any talent because even if she did not you are right that she gave 110% and maybe even more but I just don't like her vocals on Piece Of My Heart ::)

I suppose I should not judge her singing on just one song since that is what I was guilty of doing with Boyz II Men and now I like even more than just one of their songs :o
I will see if I can find the song you mentioned and see what I think of that one.  Is there another song you would recommend?

Overplayed stuff can become painful to listen to and so can overplayed hits by any of my favorite artists or bands that I don't think really reflects on their music in general.  Fx. I'm a huge Depeche Mode fan but I really, seriously, hate 'Just Can't Get Enough'.  It's been overplayed, it's a song I think too many people only remember them for or they know the song but have never heard of DM and/or they wrongfully still judge DM for that one song that ex-member Vince Clarke who left very early on, wrote.  He's written good stuff, I don't dislike the man, and I do like some of his early DM songs but I just don't think that's his best song or the best song he wrote for DM.

I don't really listen to radio and I live under a rock ;) so I'm not very aware of contemporary pop music.

Oh, most DM covers by other artists ie. Marilyn Manson makes me cringe but I quite like the late Johnny Cash' cover of 'Personal Jesus'.

A Danish artist wrote a song about an area code I used to live in and while it touched me enough to make me cry, I really didn't like the feeling that he "claimed" that area code in his song.  '8-6-6-0'  it's usually just written as 8660

That is why I don't like Drops Of Jupiter by Train and Follow Me by Uncle Kracker because the radio would play them pretty much morning, afternoon and night every single day :o

And in our town, our local radio station plays a lot of Led Zeppelin but from what I hear that happens pretty much around most of the country?

But what is funny is that every time my wife and I are going somewhre in our car they usually play a Bob Seger song but that is ok because I like pretty much all of his music 8-)

Dunno if I can narrow it down to certain songs that I can't stand. I'd be typing forever!  ;D

Generally, I have an open mind when it comes to music - I was raised around it. But when listening to the radio (gah!  :P) in my car, per se, there are certain bands/artists that will make me change the station immediately. I probably can't list all of them, but here are a few:

Coldplay
Muse
System Of A Down
The Plastic Ono (Oh No!) Band
Nirvana
Bjork
P. Diddy
Guns N' Roses
Marilyn Manson
Tim McGraw
Faith Hill
Limp Bizkit
The Fugees
Kelly Clarkson
Dave Matthews (and his godawful band)
Britney
Bob Seger
Kenny Rogers
Steely Dan
Kid Rock
Sarah McLaughlin
Amy Winehouse
Gretchen Wilson
Rage Against The Machine
Boybands (NKOTB, The Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, 98°, Rascall Flatts, Hanson, etc.)

:P

I thought of 1 more but I know the song but not who does it :-[

The Eagles song Desperado and I want to say Travis Tritt covered it but I am not sure about that :-/

I like The Eagles but Deperado is not very high on my list of Eagles songs I like so when I first heard this cover I almost fainted :o   And back then I did not like country music as much as I do now.

i also like janis but she does tend to scring-that is to scream/sing at times.

i second the sentiment about hating anything fergie ever recorded, especially "my humps" which is probably the most degrading song a woman could sing about herself.

i also hate the song with the line "wasting away again in margaritaville" (not sure if that is the title or something else is) as it seems to be on the radio all the time.  i tend to stick to my ipod for my own music listening.

RTG: The song you're thinking of is Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet. And being his biggest hit, it's not going away anytime soon.

Jerry: Clint Black did the Desperado remake. He sounds absolutely nothing like Travis Tritt, so I have no idea how you could confuse the 2...unless you just aren't that familiar with country music.

That is Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet which is an ok song but they do play it on the radio a lot ::)
It is actually getting to be an old song since it is from 1977.

I do know more about country music than I used to but I have not heard that version in such a long time I knew it was one of the male country singers.

Back when they used to play it on the radio a lot I would almost cringe when it came on (like I used to with the George Strait song All My Ex's Live In Texas because they would play that song at least 10 times a day - well, it seemed like it anyway).
But, I would probably hate the Clint Black version still because I am not fond of the original either ::)

I knew somebody would know who did it, thank you :)

I should have said/added that I used to work in Data Entry and we would share a radio and alternate between the rock and country station every week day so on country days I would not have much of a choice in what I listened to on the radio ::)   I suppose I could have used ear plugs but that was not a thought back then :-[

We eventually got to use our own radio's or cassettee players with headphones (this was back in 1987/1988 so I did not own a CD player yet) so I pretty much listened to just heavy metal, rock and some pop music.

I think the song I cant stand the most is called The Teddy Bear song  :'(.  Red Sovine sang it, I dont know who wrote it.  I was still living at home at the time it came out so late 60ish.  As far as favorites--I dont have one.  I still enjoy listening to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.
