I know it's a couple of days away, but what are you doing for the 4th of July?

I'm hoping to convince hubby to do something fun.  However, with our 110 degrees today it might be a movie.

What are you doing, Trisha??

My wife and I might go out of town and spend the day and stay to watch their fireworks since ours seem to get worse and worse each year :-/

We have been up in the air about this for a bit now.  We keep going back and forth with the idea of going to Pittsburgh to visit our families.  Yesterday, I decided no because things weren't coming together the way that I wanted them too.  However, my husband is still trying to see if we can get things worked out so that we can go.

If we don't go, I guess we'll just find something to do here, or perhaps do nothing at all. :-/

Trisha, I know you'll enjoy your day because your daughter will be arriving! :D

In years past, we've spent upwards of $100 on fireworks; not the piddly stuff, but the colourful, grand displays that everyone oooh's and aah's over.   :)  But this year the money simply isn't there for us to do that.  So we'll just have food and family, which is grand enough for me.  And yes, my daughter is home for a visit, so I'd be happy to sit and do nothing!   ;D

If plans hold up, I'll be going downtown for sushi with my sister, then to the county fair.

Our plans for the 4th changed at the last minute.  We had planned to just go up to our land and have some alone time, but hubby's mom fell this past week ( 3rd time this year) and we had to make an emergency trip to her place.  She's OK - no broken bones, just a huge bruise on her hip and a bump on her head.  We've spent the past several days making arrangements for her to move into a Senior apartment complex and start sorting out all her stuff in preparation for the move.  We did get to see some awsome fireworks over Lake Winnebago.  We watched the city fireworks for Neenah and Menasha, plus all the fireworks that people shoot off from their docks along the lake.

Hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th!

Hubby and I saw a 1:15 pm matinee of Indiana Jones and it was really fun.  We wanted to be home early so Ziggy wouldn't be too freaked out by the loud fireworks sounds and it worked out great.

My wife and I did go out of town and the longer the night got the more rainy it became :o   We parked in the Kmart parking lot and watched all the local people shooting off their fireworks which was better than nothing.
And we waited until 10:15pm and I figured the big show would be canceled because of the rain :'(

It is an hours drive and on the way back we got stuck in the rain, hail and lightning and when we were about 15 miles from home the hail got so bad I could barely see the road and I slowed down to about 45 mph on the interstate :o

But, obviously we did make it home and I had a pretty good 4th. of July this year 8-)

I should add that I am not as much into the fireworks like my wife is but they can be neat if they are big and pretty high in the sky ::)

To be honest with everybody, I think most fireworks are a total waste of money  for something that lasts maybe 20 seconds per firework and how long does the thrill really last?
And while I am on my soapbox, I get frustrated that kids and some grownups forget what the 4th. of July really means and why there are fireworks in the first place :o

That is why I wore my t-shirt that has the American Flag on it and says God Bless America.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Jerry.

I spent the 4th sick as a little dog.  Didn't get any of the homemade peach ice cream (with home grown peaches!), flag cake, hot dogs, or anything.  My family went to the fireworks without me, but that was probably okay because my foot couldn't have taken the heat.

What a bummer, T.T!  I hope your foot is recovering quickly!
